Hi all, I have read some posts about VE owners having an annoying rattle near their head when driving. I too had this annoying problem with my VE Clubsport.

It is the rear door handles, they rattle on the inside as there is a small ball that sits in the back of the handle and attaches the cable to the door lock, the noise is the ball sitting inside the steel handle cradle, as it has no pressure on it.

FIX: Take the rear door trims off, 5 screws. Unclip the wiring harness, door lock cable and door handle cable from the trim.

Using electrical heat shrink (5mm is what I had lying around, fit just right) cut a 4mm peice and slide it over the ball at the end of each cable. Heat the area with open flame or heat gun so it shrinks around the ball. When cool, reattach the cable to the door lock and the handle, you will have to push as the ball will now be a very snug fit, BUT best of all when you are finished you won't have any more noise.

Hope this helps some other VE Owners.

brilliant fix mate!!!
good thinking there too. very smart way to fix it.
holdens fix is prolly to coat the ball in some contact grease or something silly like that!

For those of us without heat guns? can we use electrical tape?

No, I tried electrical tape, you cant get it to stick to such a small area.

Even a cig lighter worth a few bucks will shrink heat shrink.

No shortcucts, unless you want rattle.... rattle.:p

Wow.. Small world really.

I could have taken a sound bite of it from the, erm, "cafe" i was at across the road.. (for those that know Osborne Park, it was OP's Tavern)

I actually commented to one of my fellow co-workers how awesome it sounded and that's what a V8 should sound like.. I could hear it at IDLE from across the street, even with the traffic!
I'll definately have to have a closer look and listen when i get my "SSilVer Bullet"..

If you are ever over Osborne Park way again, feel free to come and join in our "meeting" ;)
