Hi all new to the forum and the gen 3 scene. Have had holden 5 ltrs before. Should be a quick and easy one for some, my check driveline light comes on ( VT series 2 auto) sometimes whilst driving. I have had it checked and the fault is apparently with the knock sensors. The car still drives fine and there is no strange or unwanted noises. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I read somewhere on here about it being an oil pressure problem, but as I said the car doesn't behave any different weather the light is on or off. Any help would be great. And also how involved is it to change the two of them and are any "special" tools required.

You'll have more luck searching the LS1 Powertrain section with this one. Here's a link to help you out....

Mark @ power torque said I need to replace mine as that is why it is down on power. Spun up only 178.7rwkw at the last dyno day. When edited it was just over 200rwkw.

With the LS1's mate if there is a knock sensor fail detected the PCM pulls a fair chuck of timing to protect the engine in case of real knock. If you aren't noticing a big drop in power its probably not a knock sensor code that is set. Get it read again and make sure that it is what it is.

Knock sensors are under the inlet manifold which you will have to remove.
AFAIK, need usual tools and a torque wrench.

Had this problem with 2 customers cars, both VT's, when we removed the manifold we also found that the harness to the KS was pinched, on one of them after we replaced the sensors a week later the check engine light came on again and it was another KS fault, I changed the KS Table to a VY one and have not had any problems since.

If you want to change them it's easy to do at home if you have a decent tool kit.

If there is no noticeable power drop off the other possibilty is o2 sensors, they crap themselves quite often on std cars.

Thanks to all for the info. I think the bloke who I took it to maybe trying to scam some extra dollars by saying it's the knock sensor's when it could just be the o2 one. I had a mate take his VQ stato into the same place to get a mini spool put in and after he had picked it up went for a cruise north and the diff shat itself. Turned out it had just been welded. So in future I think I will be going to someone else.

Any perth guys know a decent mechanic who knows his/her shit and does care about their customers?

Go to Chipmaster, he'll tell you what's wrong with it and he's a forum sponsor.
