People dont want to pay the same amount for a vectra as a commodore..
And repair costs are way out of most peoples reach..

I would rather have a large car like that for commodore money than a BMW1 or AUDI 3, Merc A,b etc.

With a couple of tweaks and an I6, that would make a great Torana.

Euro imports are always higher cost..
Thats why holden have gone towards the Korean Crap as you call it.
People dont want to pay and the sales results reflect.

I disagree, imports from Europe are steaming along, Astra sales strong , it was just that the Vectra was overpriced.

Which Ford?

I reckon it would be tough once HSV got there hands on it, set of nice big wheels and a turbo set up similar to that of the HSV VXR.
If it was rear wheel drive id buy one.
Cheers.

No future for this car without rear wheel drive.
even better, make it a 4 wheel drive with ls2

I think it looks average. Don't mind the rear shot, but the stance... 4 wheels on four corners needs a decent proportion (like VE) and this just looks go-kartish.
These are based on the Opel concept from Geneva, and it looks as if they haven't given it decent sedan treatment.

Back angle is very nice / not sure about the front.
They will sell more Koreans versions in the end (at more profit).

It doesnt look too bad.
I believe most European cars (certainly from opel) use galvanised metal so they dont rust. :teach:

I dont mind it, my take on it is that the Commodore front end will head that way in the next few releases

Great looking car. IMHO Holden is losing the plot--although they may have no choice. All this korean rubbish they are bringing in--Barinas, Vivas, Epicures--these cars would not have met the Holden "standards" a few years ago. The recently superceded V6 Vectra, & the TS Astras just cr--ped all over this stuff. Well, all I can say is "you get what you pay for".
Cheers, Pickles.

Meh, the last model Vectra in particular wasn't all that great.
My Dad bought a new Vectra in 2003 on the strength of how good my TS Astra was, and boy has he been disappointed. He got a 3.2 V6 CDX hatch, and has found it hard to see out of, impossible to get comfortable in without putting another cushion on top of the seat, difficult to operate all the minor controls, heavy on fuel (and it requires premium), and on top of that after four years and 45,000km lots of the interior trim and plastics are looking extremely second hand. For something of its size, it's very poorly packaged - there is bugger all interior room and even things like the dash design causing front passenger kneeroom problems are an issue.
Every time I drive it, I'm impressed with the performance from the V6 but always disappointed with the torque steer, the lack of steering feel, the tyre noise, and the way the auto transmission is almost always in the wrong gear for the situation other than when you're cruising at constant speed.
Unfortunately all the things wrong with it didn't really become obvious until after a few months of ownership, or I don't think he would have bought one. I don't think he's ever been more disappointed in any car he's ever bought. He's now actively considering a replacement even though the plan was for this to be his last car (he's 66). The only upside to all of this is that because their resale value sucks, you can get one for stuff-all money with low kilometres and it might be a better buy than a new $20k small car.
In my view, Opel peaked with the TS Astra and has stagnated since then, while the Koreans come forward in leaps and bounds with every new model. Keep the Vectra in Europe, thanks...

My father and my missus have an 05 Vectra 2.2 and frankly its one of the better cars holden ever released apart from the new VE.
Solid, euro looking, still turns heads, no issue with trim, fuel or workings of the car.
I still enjoy driving it even after driving the VE and i'd consider the new one shown below if it ever came out here

My missus has the 05 V6 Vectra CD Hatch. No major problems with it and it goes well. Like the shape and like a hatch. Just wish Commodore would come out in a hatch too.
Holden sell way more Barina's since the Korean version came out and will probably sell way more Epica's than Vectra's. Simple reason is that they're cheaper, and in a competitive market that is all that most people look at. People like me prefer to spend a bit more and get a better quality, but apparently we're in the minority. That's not to say that Korean built vehicles are bad quality, there is just a bit less to them.

yeah i dont know Marco ,maybe your Dad is just getting old :) we have hit over 93000km now in our CDXi the last time i looked-wife still loves the car ,still looks good ,and very current in style after 4 years. Drives really well and been very very reliable too.Interior has held up better than any local i have ever owned (easily !) . Great car ,unsure of what to replace it with so we still have it.

Looks to me like Auto Express have done their usual trick of poor chops, in this case from original pics of a VE/Torana.
That mag doesnt have alot of credibility in the UK.

NO DOUBT!
Vectra 5 Speed Automatic costs $10,000 (yes...ten thousand...with a ten at the front) to replace.

Nice rear quarter shape, front is a bit all over the place. Looks like a, dare I say it, VE at the front.
Cant help but wonder how much head room rear occupants have too! :bravo:

Before the Vectra, Dad had a VP SS and it looked brand new inside the day he traded it after 11 years of ownership. He's a pretty careful sort of guy and looks after his cars, doesn't eat or drink in them, cleans them regularly, etc. The Vectra's seat trim is already looking tired, the fabric on the doors is worn (especially on the edges of the armrests), and the 'coating' has come off a lot of the switchgear - it looks like it's peeling off. And this is on a car with 45,000km. By comparison, my TS Astra still looked brand new inside after five and a half years when I traded it six weeks ago, so it's not as though Opel can't get this sort of thing right.
Considering he paid something like $45k for it, it's been a completely disappointing car. He drove my VE today and totally loved it, so with some luck it might be replaced by a VE Calais soon.

Yeah, Captiva is just crap - not!! ...and you have not mentioned the AH Astra at all. If Holden could not make money on Vectra then is it not better to find a vehicle it can make money on? Makes sense to me. People who have seen / driven Epica say it is a good, solid, somewhat boring (so is Camry) vehicle to get from A to B. Judging from warranty claims on GMDAT sourced product since they were re-released as Holden's, they are far from 'crap' as you indicate.
