The full Akrapovic Titanium system and race filters brought it to 164.7 RWHP, up from stock at around 150 RWHP.

It barks alright, shoots blue flames on the gear change and looks like a flame thrower on the over-run.

Good thing about the can-bus electronics on these K bikes is every modification is plug and play. Just disconnect and reconnect the battery and it retunes itself.

K1200S is one out of the bag for BMW and has really thrown the cat among the pidgeons with the japanese litre plus club!

I like it.

Cruiser, sports bike, track day bike ..... it is the ultimate.

A bike that can do 0- 100 kmh in 2.6 seconds, top speed of 280 kmh +, ride 1600 kms in 16 hours, flick through the twisties with ease, get your knee down on the corners (all with luggage) and you can still walk afterwards .... is a dream to ride!

Oh yeah and looks like it is doing a million miles per hour standing still!

And chicks dig it, just want to sit on it, touch it ...... Priceless!

I like it!

It'll also look good in a couple of years unlike some of the Jap efforts which end up looking decidedly second hand after 24 months of use (except maybe Hondas ;) )

wow, thats awesome!
i've never seen a bike with twin brake rotors on the front before..
just out of curiosity (excuse my ignorance with bikes :o ) but are they small springs on the exhaust system?

Thats cause Hondas didnt seem to change for about 10 years!!!

The had no idea about how to make a rear end until the 05 or maybe even 06 models

All decent bikes have twin discs up front!!!

And yep most of the good bike exhausts use springs to hold them together, the Yoshi system on my bike is the same...

Mmm, I'm seriously considering getting one of these for an upcoming trip around Tasmania with my father and brother. My brother has the naked version. Can you give me an idea of the cost of one on road with options (PM me if you would rather). When my brother bought his, BMW were decidedly unwilling to discount (which is probably a good thing) and the second hand examples seem to hold their value far better than the latest Suzuki or Yamaha etc. Would those paniers have enough room for a short trip?

Umm where you been dude? twin discs up front? only for about the last 20 years or more ......

The springs are trick, silicon shroud, hold all the system together, allows for expansion of the slip joints under heating and cooling. No ridgid fitting anywhere to put stress on welds etc. All pipe work is titanium. The headers are glowing in the photo with the engine at idle.

They're not a bad looking piece of kit - I had a good look at one the Melbourne Motor Show, and come away pleasantly surprised. BMW certainly are moving away from the staid image of the past.

I would consider one when it's time to trade in the Blackbird, but I would look long and hard at the value-for-money factor when comparing with other bikes of this genre that are available at the time. There's a lot of good bikes available in this market segment atm, and this model BeeEmm is right in amongst it.

How much throw do you get from the shaft drive?

What are servicing costs like?

How is it for rear tyre wear?

How does the rear suspension hold up under various conditions, such as loaded panniers, two up riding and hard riding?

Enjoy your riding!!

shaft throw ? No driveline lash if that is what you mean?

Servicing cost .. $147 AUD for the 10,000 km service, mineral oil. No chain, sprockets to worry about.

Tyre wear, well I got 8600 km out of my second tyre, Metzler M3's .. but That is with half a dozen track days thrown in, gives the chicken strips a hiding ....

I have the non ESA suspension ... 2 up riding.. never, this is just for me. Gear, just enough for a couple of days, just wind up the preload a little and you are away. Hard riding ... rock solid.

Awesome to throw mods on, the canbus is just plug and play ... no need to retune, does it all on its own.

Cheers

Thanks for answering so quickly Peter! It sounds like the ongoing maintainence costs are very reasonable - how often is a major service? Not having to worry about chain and sprockets certainly adds to the practicality of the bike!!

Shaft throw is the sideways reaction you get when you rev the bike a bit - it would probably push the bike to the right a bit; it comes from the sudden acceleration of the shaft when you blimp the throttle. It was quite noticeable on older shafties.

I was wondering how a pillion would go with that exhaust - my VTR1000 had hi-rise exhausts which precluded a pillion, and my wife hated them. Sounded awesome but!!

Has a torque bar across the top of the shaft. I have not really noticed any throw.

Exhaust is not "high rise" as such, sits pretty much where the stock one sits.

It is a sweet sound, pillion has never complained, has a nice deep note at cruising revs with out to much drone.

Major service is at 30,000 kms when a valve clearance check is done, or when the canbus thinks it has done 30,000 kms of riding, riding hard, or mods make the canbus clock up km's faster. At 10,000 kms on my bike the canbus was showing 13,000 kms of "wear". I guess that is the impact of the full titanium zorst, race filters and 15 or so track days.

Cheers

I guess the pipes are meant to discolour, looks horrible to an old fart who always thinks that's a sign of very lean motor, or very great throttle abuse. Pity it's just too big to be a practical bike. The best BMW was the one they never built, a low compression R800 tourer with a 5 speed and short swing arm. Shame!

He does not worry me, his comment proves he knows nothing about BMW and exhausts in general.

As for practical, it is fantastic for eating up km's on a ride (1600 kms in 18 hours) and very flickable in the twisties, I have never been left wanting anything more when I ride it. It is actually the smallest of all the current breed sports tourers (ZX-14, Hyabusa, Blackbird etc)

Got the full Akrapovic ex the USA from a dealer. Was 1/2 the price of a locally sourced unit.

Thanks for the comments.

i met Peter the other weekend at JezzaB's and i got to see this bike in person and it gave me a much higher appreciation for BMW motorcycles
this thing is off its gut,abs you pull the front brake leaver and it apply s both front & rear brakes evenly, the exhaust sounds horn and ive got a nice video here of blue flames coming out of the tail pipe peter said stand back i stood back 2m and the exhaust gass where slapping me in the face:rofl:
