There've been a few posts about "upgraded" autos to handle increased/F.I. power etc. A replacement 4L80E was also mentioned. But if one was going to go to that amount of trouble, then surely a good solution would be to fit a 6L80E, which would have the strength, plus two more gears.
G & D said they could fit a 4L80E, so if you're reading this guys, what do reckon would be involved in fitting the 6 speed?! As well as the mechanical side of the conversion, what about the digital readouts on the dash--what gear you're in etc?
Cheers, Pickles.

Great question Pickles ... I would be VERY interested to know if this is possible also.

You'd have to change the PCM (VE PCM) to suit the A6 so it could control it wouldnt you?

If the 6L80e is as strong as the 4L80e then it must be physically bigger due to the extra 2 gears..

That means it wont fit at all, as the 4L80e is use and just fits lengths wise.

The VE floorpan has alot of changes.

I would just go with the proven 4L80e alot of aftermarket parts are available to make it _extremely_ tough.

I had a look on the Holden web site a couple of weeks ago and you can get a 6 speed auto in the ute now, so it might not be that difficult to convert after all, apart from the cost of the box.

It actually says 6.0L auto .... if you have a look at the full specs list it still only lists the 4spd auto or 6spd manual for the V8

There are threads already on the conversion. Basically it would cost the first few ppl as much as a new VE to convert. The computers, BUS, Size, linkages, stally, flexplates etc are all differant. Even if you could buy the gearbox it would be 10k+ then the work to put it in would run up some MAJOR time and efforts.
