Hey guys
my new VZ ss ute ( new to me ) has had an edit/remap or what ever you want to call it done by sams performance, was already done when i bought it.
the car is standard apart from this, now i know its best to have had the tune done last, but what if i want to add a cat back exhaust and modded airbox now.
now the question is would i defo have to have a new tune done, or will it be ok apart from im not really getting the best out of the tune because i have added an exhaust and airbox/filter afterwards
also what sort of kw's do you think im running with just the tune done, 250 standard aren't they?

I dont know how much the tune would have to be altered, someone on here will be able to tell ya spot on.
Maybe call the guys that done the tune and ask him to touch it up after u add a few bits on.
If u go elsewhere the original tuner will have to unlock pcm for ya anyway so it might be a much cheaper way to go.
When I looked at getting my tune most people said they wouldnt touch it standard as its a waste of my money, I know u didnt do it, just wondering what the previous owner was thinking of.

I did a heap of mods after my sams maf edit, but only because
I moved to the Territory and it wasn't feasible for me to take
it back and have the tune touched up. Car still ran ok though.
Give sams a call, he should be able to tell you exactly what the
car put down after the edit :)
Edit: Why would it be a waste of time putting a tune into a stock
vy/vz, the exhaust on them aint that bad the intake also is not
that bad, so probably some good gains to be had.

thanks for the replies guys
only thing i can see it doing is not getting the max benefit out of the new mods that i want to do.
in regards to having an edit done to a standard engine, i think it still makes quite a bit of difference from what a couple of people have said. it certainly feels a lot faster than the other ss utes i drove by quite a bit.
ah black 346 , i didnt know he would be able to adjust the tune ( well i know they can, but some companies want to charge for a full on tune again, i take it this only applies if i was to take it back to sam and he touched it up )

you shouldnt be chrged for a full tune. it should just be an hourly rate for time on the rollers with the tuner to get it right again... its definately the thing to do... if the pcm isnt locked, any tuner can do it.

Give sam a call or pop in and I am sure he will be able to give you a print out of the dyno run before and after the old tune and what he can do for you after the mods.

well lucky enough, without even using any tuners over in this country so far. i would only use sam or sonny anyway. thats just by going on what i have researched myself

They just said that with stock exhaust and intake that you wont get the full benefit of the tune.
I think the exhaust and the intake that is standard is crap, after feeling the difference after mine was replaced with a real system. Even the 2nd hole mod is a huge difference.
If they were any good I dont think everyone would be ripping them off so quickly do you?

You must have a real sensitive arse I reckon. You say you noticed
the difference sop from the 2 hole mod on a VY? For what it is worth
I do run an otrcai and went through, mcai conversion, 2 hole mod and
sealed pod on the way with numerous exhausts. Yes there are gains
to be had with aftermarket exhausts, intakes, ud pulleys, fark the list
goes on, but still worthwhile if on a budget just getting the tune imo.

Like I said mate "THEY SAID", when I was looking into tuning my car.
My arse is only sensitive if someone gets close to it.
I Had the 2 hole mod done with tune, already had a cat back system.
Went for a drive and there was a big difference in power, went back after 15min drive and had the headers and hiflows fitted.
If you are on a budget do what u like, I couldnt give a fark it aint my car, but like it is written here hundreds of times if u r on a budget and wanna do more mods get the tune last.
What sort of gain did u get from tune only with stock bits on?

216rwkw nearly 3 years ago at Sams. Wasn't totally stock though,
had a cheap redback and mcai with single hole, as you probably know
the VT/VX exhaust and intake have nothing on the VY and onwards,
and that is before we take into account the different intake manifold
and smaller injectors. Budget has pretty well been blown away since
then lol. Pretty sure JusticeR8 had his then new VY into sams not long
after that for a stocker edit, maybe he can tell us what it pulled and
his thoughts.
Edit: Sorry, should have made it clear than mine is a VT2, not sure what
it would have pulled with stock exhaust and intake, but pulled 200rwkw
prior to edit with above mods.

Yeah not bad then.
I didnt do a before dyno, but after 2hole, 4into1 hm's, hiflows, xforce cat back, modded maf and tune it made 235.4rw.
Got rid of my xforce and went di filippo now, wish I done it earlier.
Im the same, budget blew out long time ago. Went in for the tune, came out with the headers and hiflows done aswell. Called in another time, new tb, next time 3.9s.
Spotted new YT Ultra 1.8s on ebay for 500(brand new) 918's for 195 brand new too, vz maf $50 and she will probably go in for all that to be installed with a cam package on Tuesday...........and FARK a new clutch too.
I dont think it will ever stop..........but it makes me happy so cant be bad.

It'll only be bad if you fit that bloody VZ MAF. Theres absolutely no need for it.

HAHA, I knew i shouldnt have written that in there.
I dunno, told it will make more power than the vy harrop modded maf that i have now.
Tuner is picky as, loves his mafs, had no probs and good power from current maf tune.
If I get same drivability and fuel econ, and power I dont care.
BUT you guys are gonna tell me Im not arent ya.............my ears are open so fire away before its too late and I drop the car off.
They got 277 from the last car they done with my exact mods and the cam Im looking at. with the vy modded maf.

Not the same crew that tuned UT's 13 second weapon
 I'd be very carefull re dyno sheets..my car runs 11.01 at 122mph full weight with 277rwkw :deal: ...worth some thought ..Mafless of course ..;)

Dunno, who tuned UT's car?
I dont realy care about the 1/4 mile, I doubt I will ever take it up to calder.
I just like the power.
The car has gone great after the mods and against some other bolton cars held its own... to the speedlimit.
I was originally thinking maf bcs of warranty but I think the cam might take that worry out of the picture.

The VY sv8 made 231rwkw which was 307rwhp abolutely standard with a tune and made a touch less with the cat back we put on that i got out of the bin. Ran 12.6 at 110mph a couple of years ago. Seems slow now.
