Today my cat converter gave up and now makes a horrible rattiling sound:cussing: , especially under load. Does any one know of an easy fix for a couple of weeks till i get some new cats put on. Can you bash out the centers, i know this won't help with emissions but my car now sounds like a $2 rattling piece of crap.
Thanks
Adam

Yeah you will find that the fine you get for opening your cats could probably buy you new ones. look in the classifieds, there are some forsale i think??

We did a temporary fix to some DiFillipo cats once. They basically worked loose of the outer casing and were rattling. We carefully pressed the sides in a little to hold it steady (used a hydrolic press). It did require removing that section of exhaust. Worked for a bit until some new cats were found, but you need to be careful not to crush the inner part. If you do, your cat is well and truly rooted.
Goodluck. I know the sound you mean... not pleasant at all!
Cheers

just wait till the loose bits wear a hole in the bottom of the cat, then it'll sound......better?;)

Try the careful application of a ball peen hammer to the centre and ends; it will "tighten it up" a little anyway - enough to reduce the rattling a bit.
