I bought a VY R8 with the paint protection already on it.
Now I have read a bit into this stuff and all the technical shit, but I want some real world views on it:
1)
The car is 4 years old, would any of this crap even be left on the car by now?
I've heard its glorified shit, costs about $3 to do an entire car, the rest being profit, and can be safely waxed over, is this true?
2)
Am I safe to go get some good Meguiars car wash and just wash away without fear of turning the paint to shit or do I need to get some special kind of "Car Shampoo"?
3)
Can anyone recommend a good wax that wont **** red paintwork or leave a shitload of swirls?
4)
Am I safe to wash and wax the car assuming there may be some remnant of this "paint protection" left on it.

Mate it would be long gone by now I reckon.
That shit is the bigest rip off.
Give it a good wash then maybe even clay it, polish it then wax.
Look better then new again:thumbsup:

SEARCH
there is a detailed thread on how much of a rippoff the PP products are already.
1: 3-6mths after it was put on... nothing left
2: its probebly already shit due to no polish for 3.5yrs
3: yes, see a pro. You need some paint restoration not just wack on some polish
4: no, wash it sure, polishing it now is a waste of time unless you repair the damage it already has.
5: See the sponsors (dave @ Sponge n Bubbles)

If you want the good stuff as far as waxes and glazes go, head straight for the Auto paint shop. Forget anything you get from Department stores, You WILL pay more for the products but usually they come in pro size packs, so will last you quite a while. They can be specified for different paint finishes (Clearcoats, Solids Enamels, Acrylics etc etc). A favourite for many years has been the 3M Hand Glaze. No cutters, will fill swirls, and buffs up nice. Unless your paint needs to be rejuvenated (and then use a Panel shop, again think Professional), DO NOT use cutters. It will only make your paint thinner, likely scratch up a 2 Pack finish and risk rubbing through edges. Cutters and abrasives should only be used when deep scratches need to be removed or the paint has faded or gone chalky if it's a solid colour (then it's phucked anyway, the chalk will soon return as the UV has done it's damage).
If you want a quick cheap fix on lightly swirled and chipped paint, Turtle Wax Colour Cure is good and easy to use by hand with nice results, but will not last more than a few weeks before requiring another go. My wifes black Astra is bitch of a colour and gets a hiding up at our horse property and in the shopping centres, so the Colour cure is nice and quick to bring it up after a wash. Don't like to spend too much time (or money) on the shopping cart!

Odd, got in contact with the previous owner, hes been waxing it thougroughly once every 8 months since he got it anyway, so warranty would be gone anyway.
The paint is still in good condition dont worry about that, I'll take the fact hes been polishing it for ages as a cue for me to:
1)Soft Gel Wash
2)Paint Repairer
3)Either gold class or that wet look wax
I have an, erm, friend who gets hold of a shitload of meguiars stuff, be rude not to use it.
