Has anyone here had experience with Exedy clutches on thier LS1's? My genious mate fried the clutch on my VT II SS over the weekend :cussing: and i'm looking to upgrade to an exedy heavy duty which i can get for cost price. I've heard alot of good things about textralia but for a similar unit i can get the exedy $200 cheaper.
Any and all advice welcomed, and many thanks in advance.

Spend the extra $200 mate you wont regret it. A mate of mine has an Exedy in his VX SS and it is a good performing clutch but my Z grip on the other hand has much better manners. For relaibility you only have to look around on here to see that the Tex's are near on bullet proof. The same can't be said for the Exedy's

Hi,
All Textralia clutch units are complete with a balanced Billet flywheel and a new ring gear. Something to remember when you compare apples with sour grapes! :)

I think you'll find there are a few members on here who started with Exceedy clutches (such as myself) and now run a Textralia clutch. That must tell you something.

I've never tried an Exceedy clutch myself, however from the research ive done i wouldnt be going anything BUT a textralia.
Your clutch is a key factor between the motor and the wheels, so IMO the extra $200 can be considered cheap insurance.
just my two cents
I've gone from an exceedy to a stock clutch they are that good :cussing:

I wouldnt quite say their bullet proof as ive had mine for just over a month now and I cant select 3rd gear properly and my pedel has gone heavy. And now my car is sitting on a hoist over the weekend waiting for my warranty replacement. Although the turbo ls1 setup is producing quite a bit of torque I only used the clutch as recommended (x or z grip I believe). I think it all comes back to the track day when it slipped on the 2nd pass, funny enough though it came good for every pass after that. After 6 or so passes I noticed I was having some trouble picking 3rd. Oh well I suppose ill just have to catch the train or bus till monday when its back on the road. Other than that though the clutch has been excellent to drive, even the misses drives it most days of the week (she takes it pretty easy on the clutch too)

Give PlanB a call or PM, I think you may find it's not related to the clutch per se, but slave, fluid or something issue.

Phone is off mate, not really happy with the service as he knew this issue on friday. Also too its a fairly new slave. but the clutch is disengaging its only at high rpm (i.e. the critical shifts) which I cant get 3rd and its ever since the clutch slipped at the track. Also too pedel feel is all wrong. I think the flywheel may be warped or something along those lines. All I know is something doesnt feel right. We will see soon enough though. Thanks anyway for the tips.
Ok guys just thought Id update you all on the results at this point. Peter was nice enough to come out to the workshop on his day off with a new clutch, and spent quite a bit of time investigating the problem at hand. Even to the degree of testing my original clutch in the car, then pulling it out and putting a new one in only to find pedel feel was identical. My original was then put back in and the system was bled, which is when it all came good again. A few pumps later with the clutch and the pedel went to the floor- the culprit looks to be the master cylinder. It would also explain some of the other problems I have experienced with slipping etc. I would like to give a big thanks to textralia/plan b for standing by his word and backing his product exactly as he advertises, and to go so far out of his way to find the problem (all on his day off).

Thanks Nathan,
It’s always great to catch up with a problem.... Particularly a local one…. That clutch of yours is still like new, when looking at the replaceable friction material, we can see the evidence of the hot lapping that went on during the private track day that day but all in all it’s still pretty good….. You’re about 1/8th into your friction material, so you’ve still got plenty to go before we need to help you rebuild anything with the clutch.
It's also great to see Girch looking after you too. Nice ride by the way!
After reading your post regarding the problems with 3rd gear shifting? There are a couple of things we found…. You may need to take a look at your shifter… I saw it and it’s one of those ghetto rigged B&M Unit’s and from what I have gathered over the years, this is a common issue with units. Most people with your vehicle.. (the track attackers from all over the world) use the Aussie Product from GM Motorsport…. It fits straight up and actually works. ;) You may also look at the input shaft play on your transmission as its way out of specification and the only thing keeping it reasonably in line is your pilot bearing. The wear is evident, so look out for that one in the future.
As far as customer care and contact goes Nathan, You’re more than welcome to give me a call anytime personally on 0414 606 966…. If I’m on another call or out of range it should always go to the office where our receptionists will answer during normal hours. We don’t use messaging systems here… Just real people who we employ and will totally help you….
Thanks for your kind words and I’m certain you’re in good hands with Girch and the Clan.... Great players and great achievers!

Good on 'ya for putting in the hard yards there Pete.
I certainly know which clutch I'll be buying when I finally replace my ever suffering stock clutch.
Cheers,

Thanks for the support Pete!
i pulled the old master cylinder to peices, not pretty at all, which explains the extremely hard pedal feel,
after replacing the master and line, Nathan says the clutch feels better than the day it was fitted....... his wife agrees too!
Girch.
