View Full Version : Rear power window button lights??
Hey everyone... I noticed the other day in our VE Calais V that there was no light coming from the buttons in the back of the car for the power windows. I have never noticed them on before and hoped in the back and cant see any light from them. Would be a damn pain if someone is riding in the back and cant see where the button is to power the windows down. Anyone can tell me if there VE's with rear power windows have lights? :werd:

I don't suppose you have them locked do you. On the earlier models if you locked them the lights are turned off.

No... There not locked... Just no light coming from them... Its really strange and only just noticed it. I wonder if any other VE owners can spread some LIGHT on this one!

Same as you do in the light........ Press the switch. :p
thats a bit crappy, my VT 2 SS has the lights, why wouldnt a $60,000 calais V? doesnt make sense to me why they would get rid of them in the VE.

Yeah I don't like it either hen carmakers seem to 'downgrade' some features. But to those that ask "how are people supposed to find the switch in the dark?"; um.....um.....the same way that people did for decades before window switches were illuminated!!! As I said, I don't like it when a previous model has something that the current model misses out on, but......

The term is 'decontenting'. They all do it. Audi did it quite badly with the A4 model B6 -> B7 transition to make the new sticker price look good; by the time you added back the options it was more expensive. IIRC the price dropped $4K but you had to option it back by $6K to get to the same spec level.
Going from an '03 to '04 build A4, I gained illuminated vent dials and coming-home lights, but lost puddle lamps, glovebox lock, flip-up ciggy lighter, lesser-quality leather, plus other things.
Volkswagen are busy doing the same thing with the Golf in order to make some money on it (finally) - compare the '04, '05, '06 and '07 MY spec sheets :)

Kind of like what Holden has down with the current model names? People think that a Calais is cheaper now than VZ but forget that the Calais really corresponds to the VZ Berlina and the Calais V corresponds to the VZ Calais. Clever marketing.

I reckon that was marketing - look how the press (and forums :) ) said "Wow the Calais has dropped $7K in price!"
Decontenting is saving a few bucks which goes straight onto the bottom line. It's quite distasteful when it involves safety items (like Holden with the '04 Barina, when they removed the active head restraints) - the yanks did that with their low-end cars a while back - made an extra $200 per car by relegating ABS and airbags to the options list.
Well thanks everyone for getting back to me about the switches. I cant believe that they would not put lights behind the window switches as these are used often. :cussing: There is light coming from all the DVD buttons and not to mention the light from the remote control. I believe that this is the only set of buttons plus the window lock button up front that is not lit. I wonder what they will cost cut in the next VF model???? Replace interior lights with an eveready torch??

Hey! I just noticed my VT has no lights on them either! But this could probably be because it's pov and doesn't have electric windows...

I've never seen a VT without them. Are you sure you have them turned on. My VT certainly has lights. I can't see something as simple as that being seperated from high level models either. I could be wrong though. It's not something I really look for when I'm in other peoples cars. I remember a mates VT S having lights though, and they are as low spec as you can get.

It's worse when they "de-content" by stealth eg. release a model and in a year or so little things keep disappearing, like the full-sized spare in the VY which became a space-saver in the VZ etc. Alloy-look foot rest in VY, replaced by plane one in VZ.

Agreed, but I think it's even worse that Holden think cost saving is due to removing two LEDS and a couple of metres of wire. I mean come on, how much does that cost?
Hey I was reading through the VE Owners manual and in Chapter 3. Section 22. (3-22). It mentions rear lights for the rear power windows!!!!!
So the VE models must have lights for the rear power windows... Im going to call Holden this morning and ask them about it....
Has any VE owner on here seen lights on the rear window switches??

I test drove and picked up a ve ss recently. Neither the test car or my ve ss has rear power window switch lights. maybe it off by default???
Just spoke to someone at Holden customer service. He said to me if its in the manual, then it should be working on the car...
Im really at a loss on what to do.. So I will call my Holden Dealer and ask them about it.

How often do you sit in the back at night looking at the window switch? If it is really that much of a big deal to you call your dealer...

Ummm yes I have called my dealer and he said that it appears that they dont light up. He checked 2 VE's they had in service and found that they didnt light up also.... I guess when you spend 60 grand on a car you want everything to be working... especially if its mentioned in your owners manual.
So I guess its a big deal to me.

It doesn't really concern me but my wife sits in the back with my little toddler. And it really annoys her especially my previous vy ss has the lights and my ve ss is brand spanking new and world class and all...
