He has ordered the block for me at $3750.00 au landed at my door. Will be here in about 2 months. Now to find a crank and rods and pistolas:thumbsup:

Hi Dan have not really thought about it yet but i do have atleast 2 months to. Dont think ill go down the forced induction road to start with just want a daily drver that will lay down some good times on the weekend. Everyone is going turbo and superchargers so i thought tis will be something different. Would like to see at least 500 to 600 rwhp and some 10 sec passes and ill be happy so at the moment im going for big cubes and largish cam

You wont need forced induction with 500-600rwhp anyway, they fairly fly anyway. I think alot of people dont relise what that sort of HP can get you into. Something i only relised last night...

Well after a bit of research and good old fashoned chin wagging i have decided to go with a callies crank with a 4.250 stroke and a bore size of 4.200 wich will still leave plenty of wall thickness if i choose to go F.I latter on. This combo along with some new custom S.R.E heads (im told based on a ls7 head but alot stronger ) has a thicker face on the head. So they wont distort under big boost. All up this will give me a 472 cube fire breathing draggon. Will hopefully start seeing some parts coming in soon the block is about 4 weeks away now. Thats the easy part done know the hard part to pay for it all :cussing:

I watch with close interest to see what Searle is passing off as his own branding on this one. There are only three heads that I know of that are commercially available at this time that fit the description. I know he isn't offering the ETP.

Another thing to keep an eye on is that Callies also do a CompStar line of cranks now from Chinese forgings but finished to Callies high standards. These are being flogged around the joint as Callies USA cranks. They aren't and the price reflects the product.

Research carefully on all LS components. All is not what it seems at first glance and there are many pitfalls for the first time engine buyer.

I was allowing for the possible price rise of the LS7/C5R kit and electronic throttle, better saving to much and having leftover than falling short of the mark.

still waiting for my blocks to arrive but next week I will know. Being cast in the UK and from what some over there have told me they are the shit. The LSX is mighty big chunk of cast iron though.....looks like it come out of the International Harvesters! Can't beleive they left the thing on such a small bore though concidering most will go straight to 4.125". That is a lot of cast iron to remove.....

Fuel system will have an intank walbro to a stainless surge tank with 2 bosch 44 pumps and 2 5/16 lines. I will be using the standard LS7 fuel rails and injectors at this stage (see how they go) have not decided wich fuel pressure regulator to run yet wether i mount it in the engine bay or neer the surge tank.

I might get down to waneroo for a fang but if i like it i will put the engine in another car as i dont wanna ruin the GTS

Manley Platinum series flat top pistons at 4.185" Dia 1.000" CD-14cc weighing in at 416 grams without the pin

Lunati Pro-Billet steel 4340 rods @ 6.125"

Also a set of clevite bearings and akerly&childs rings

All of this will bring this package to a mighty 468ci wich as far as i have seen is the biggest anyone has gone with one of these yet ( i may be wrong )

I will be relocating the PCM
Putting the battery in the boot
Moving the ABS module down to where the battery was
Moving the cruise control module
Mounting the coil packs on the chasis rail
Fitting a VZ raditor and overflow
Getting the engine bay painted same as the outside of the car Phantom black

This should open up the engine bay alot and make it look real tidy

There was originaly issues with the crank i had but it was machined to suit

You can use the stock oil sump the ones off a vz a better and i am getting some baffels welded in to try limit oil surge. There are also some custom made bigger sumps out there

good to see you getting somewhere. I thought you were using ETP heads? Looks like the pistons are cut for 15 degree valve angle.....

Yes they are 15 degree valve angle and i will be going with some differant heads to suit.

By the time you pay freight and like you said you would wanna double check it it would probably work out the same price to do it all seperatly

Hey I'm still thinking about stuff for your engine bay. I'll get back to you in early jan. I'm a bit busy at the moment. I just need to know how far you want to go with the engine bay?

Does anybody know if the LS7 coil packs are physicaly differant in size to the LS1 coil packs as im going to make a remote mounting bracket using the LS1 coils but will have LS7 coils when the motor is fitted.

Had to fly back to work yesterday so cant do much to it till im back in 3 weeks but have already fitted the sump. Just waiting for the manifold to come back from a higgins porting and a set of carbon fibre rocker covers from Phonzy i will pick up the car from the sparkies when im down next. Then its full steam ahead.

Looking good mate - who's done all the machining and assembly for you.

You must be hanging to hear the first angry shot when it fires up.

Was all done by my Uncle Paul at Performance Modifications :goodjob: and i dont think there is one piece of the engine that didnt require a bit of clearancing

I think the noise will be what i love most about it.

Its a comp cam but the specs are secret squirell info only lol

I told mitch to chuck it in the ute and run it in at powercruise.

Will pick up the car from the sparkies in 2 weeks then its off to the new workshop so mitch can fit her up. If he has any spare time that is.

How is yours comming along.

Bit of an update

During the week off didnt get much time to work on the car but got the motor fully assembled. Fitted the windage tray with some mods for clearance as you will see. this is with a 4.25'' crank as well. Thought is was gonna be impossible but it wasnt actually that bad.

Tray was cut for clearance for oil transfer pipes and 5 8mm stainless washers were packed under all the mounting bolts.
