View Full Version : LS6 Camshaft in LS1?

Seems to me that while the stock LS1 is one of the greatest pushrod engines ever, it's always nice to make the best of it with low cost.

Would the LS6 cam, *without* the LS6 heads and bigger throttle, give better midrange feel with a straight cam change?

I have a 2001 VX International with LS1 heads and LS6 manifold, factory exhaust but opened-up exhaust with NZ no cats and free rear box. Could probably have kept the cats. Factory mufflers mostly just straight otherwise with a rear box to stop drone.

The numbers suggest the LS1 valvetrain is in this model very mild with about 0.470" valve lift, and at 0.050" conservative timing, 195 in 205 ex with 114 degree lobe seperation basic numbers measured actual [approx]
...which should with my basic knowledge be efficient and a bit biased to top end.

I don't really want some unknown person to re-write numbers in a MAFless tune, so I'm really trying to work out what the factory 2001 ECU LS1 will absorb if the cam runs about 20%-30% more air...

Lazy huh? More midrange is always nice, though.

Opinions invited.
