Should I swap my VX SS Series 2, 4Speed Automatic, 120,000ks, 3 months rego for a Manual R33 GTS-T Skyline with 80,000ks that cost the guy $21,000from a dealership six months ago. He wants to swap the skyline as he needs a family car and I have been trying to sell my car six months for $17,000. So do you guys reckon it would be easier for me to sell a R33 GTS-T Skyline for $18,000-$17,000 then the SS?

My SS only has three months rego left and the skyline has over six months rego. The guy is going to send me more pictures and information about the Skyline over e-mail so will post up more details of the Skyline in a day or so.

Maybe so but I would still like opinions from other forum members about this swap, I am only getting the Skyline to sell anyway to get my next 5.7litre in a manual. Its been so hard to sell the SS so the Skyline could be easier to sell maybe?

Trading the car is the last thing I want to do, I would rather just keep trying to sell the SS privately.

Do a manual conversion, probly work out cheaper in the long term. If you buy the Nissan you will have to pay transfer fee on it and the next SS you want to buy.

If you do the conversion i'm sure you would be able to do some type of swap with a forum member.

What ever you do, just remember the old saying "Better the devil you know". The Nissan might turn out to be a bucket of S**t.

ya could end up chasing ur tail, if he paid 21g from a dealership how much u reckon u gonna get for it? Probably the same as ur vx.
By the time u pay transfer, rwc, and then try to sell the riceburner u might end up in the same boat.
Who knows what might be wrong or go wrong with the gtr, could end up worse off.

Atleast the ss's are pretyy tuff so u know what the usual problems or weakspots are.
I would never go that way personally, Id wait it out or do the conversion.

Mate of mine at work has been trying to sell an immaculate series 2 R33 at work for months. Started at 18, now he's asking 15 last I looked and he's still not getting any bites.

Nothing wrong with the car; sunroof, 18's, cooler, exhaust, manual. Seems they aren't real easy to sell to me.

swap a ss for a 10+year old grey import that has been flogged more then a red headed step child ?

Personally I think the transfer fee's may offset any advantage you may gain, if any. In the private market most imports have reasonable demand and are more unique than an auto VX SS, but they also attract a lot of tire kickers.:teach: As a last resort, if you think trading in an SS is bad, try trading in an import. At least most dealers will take the commordore, unlike the Skyline. When you do find a dealer you'll be looking at half it's market value at best.

The short answer is I would persist with selling your holden.

You will not find an R33 Skyline easier to sell. The market is flooded with them because they were quite popular a few years ago but nobody wants them anymore.

Why not do a manual conversion to your current car if it's a manual you want and $$ are an issue. Realistically your probably not going to get any more than 14-16k for your car. VY's are going for not much more. I have heard of VT ls1's going for 8-9k.

cheers

Stick with the SS.

You can drop the price of the SS prortionally as what it would cost you in transfer fees, etc

Then you would be in a better negotiating position with cash in your hand.

i wouldnt swap, either keep trying to sell the ss, and it will sell sooner or later, can you drop the price any more to sell it? , is fitting a manual to this car viable?

Thanks for the replies guy's its a real help, yeah I think I will stick with the SS and try and get rid of her for $16,500 or there abouts. Knowing my luck the turbo or engine will blow up on the skyline within a week or two of owning it. Atleast I know my SS is realiable and is not going to blow up on me why i am trying to sell her.

Dane.

P.S Thanks again everyone.

Yeah I may drop it to 16,500 or there abouts and the manual conversion is not what I want for this car. I want to upgrade to a VY SS or a VX R8 manual or even a VU SS Manual.

Hey mate

I purchased a 94 Black R33 Skyline in 2004...loved it back then.

Sold it last year, for cheap. Was quite hard to sell.

Purchased a VT II SS Commodore 3 weeks ago, would never look back.

I personally wouldn't trade your VX SS for a Skyline.

Only swap if you can make a profit by doing so. All the transver, REVS, stamp duty and other sh!t. It's just not worth the hassle IMHO.

Don't swap - you will be going backwards & stuck with a car that will be even harder to sell. Also, with your luck (or lack thereof), I would imagine that you would be at a higher risk of attracting attention from the plod if you were in a Skyline.

Yeah I am going to hold onto the SS and keep trying to sell her.

Yeah that is true the Skyline will just be a hassle to sell anyway and properly lose money from it.

Yeah I suppose the Skyline is older and would most likely be harder to sell as I just looked over carsales and there are hundreds for sale. There are more skylines for sale then the VX SS Commodore and yeah knowing me I would be picked on from the plod everyday.

Thanks,
Dane
