Today, I had a look at the VE SS's and noticed that everyone of the Commodores painted Nickel Metallic have significant paint mis-matching of bumpers against the main bodies.

It appears that the bars are painted at different times to the bodies.

I found it very poor in such a great looking car. Surely, Holden does not expect us to 'accept' that.

One of the main reasons I went with Redhot.

Yes, would have bought Nickel, but it consistently had the worst paint match between body and bumpers. The vespers blue tends to be quite a good match.

What colour is the nickel metallic?

A workmate of mine has a VE Clubsport R8 in that metallic dark-ish blue. His has the paint starting to peel off the rear bumpers near where the tail lights meet it. It goes into the smash repairs tomorrow for a full rear bumper respray.

Not good for a less than 6 month old car.

Nickel metallic is silver colour.

Looks like they still have not had it sorted out.

Very disappointing.

I havent noticed a problem with mine. No different to any other silver car driving around at the moment. You sure your not just noticing the different metallic reflection? A curved or section that has light reflecting on it at a different angle wont look exactly the same as say the front. The paints that 'dont' have this problem seem to the the non metallic or darker cars! Coincidence??

Try walking around the car and having a 'good' look, you will notice at times the bumper actually looks exactly the same as the front guards or doors etc. Just depends on the lighting and time of day.

Just what i have noticed

PS: dont like them, dont buy them ;)

From what we were told, its the difference betweet how the paint reacts with the steel and plastic. As far as i know, the whole car is painted at the same time. It can be noticable on white cars from different angles aswell.

I have nickel and have noticed the difference in colour but it depends on the angles and sun, sometime the bumper looks darker and sometimes it looks lighter. Sometimes no difference at all....Its not only a problem with the commodores, have seen other makes with the same problem.

Also noticible on Sandstorm and white

I have noticed many silver Fords driving past me lately - and when side on in certain lights you can see where the mechanical spray arm has gone up and down with the paint down the side of the car (if you get what I mean).
It looks absolutely syhtehouse...

I believe in todays modern technology this should be not accepted.

I have a silver VX SS and trust me there is no colour/shade difference in the metal panels and the plastic panels.
The base coat, call it undercoat creates a surface that the top coats adhere to, thus should be no difference between the panels.

I reiterate my conclusion that they mut be sprayed in seperate batches of bumpers and bodies.

When it comes-up for my buying the new VE, I will definitgely ask to have these matching panels blended.

How do you plan on doing that? Holden do all things on the production line and don't alter to suit individual requests.

Through the respective dealer.

You never know your luck.

Had to have my GTS left side front guard redone, rear left door (defect under paint) and rear spoiler done......had some chips on it.

I agree that it should have been better (quality control). Dealership in Wodonga have been teriffic in okaying any defects a.s.a.p

Silver/Nickel, still looks shit HOT though:yahoo:

May as well complain on delivery, or just prior to, that way you'll get it fixed before you pick it up.

That's right, once you elude them to the problem and your sitting at the negotiating table, you will not believe some of the deals that you can sometimes wrangle.

I think if it's a factory problem the the dealer will just get Holden to pay under warranty. They won't be tipping out of their own pocket for that item, but worth a try a the negotiating table for the "inconvenience"

i have noticed this ! I think Ford has the thinnest factory paint i've seen ,total tightarses .Some colours are way worse than others though.Shame as they have a decent range of colours and some good ones at that.

Parked my nickel ss next to a E46 silver M3 today.
Both had the same effects on the bumpers and panels.
Stand straight on and the colours matched the panels, stand on a angle and the metallic showed a darker look in some parts.

Its how the paint works, its a lightly coloured metallic.

Seriously tho, if it shits you that much then get another colour. :teach:

Been keeping an eye out today and yesterday on silver cars and i think its it almost across the board. saw the following cars with different shades between bumper and body.
Falcon, Territory, Jag S type, BMW 3 series, Pulsar, Commodore, Vectra.

All silver and all had discrepencies between the bumpers and body.

Its a problem apparently at the paintshop in Holdens. Its cost them a lot in sales & heaps in upgrades to the paintshop (bell/bell spray system) because of the bumper mis-match. Its mainly on the Nickel colour though I know that much. Just some cars, not all.

As for Ford being tight arses.... All the car makers are the same. I took my WH to get a paint treatment when I got it. Try and get some of the ripples & orange peel effect out of the paintwork. The guy tells me that they can do a treatment but it's going to take a few years wear out of the paint as the paint is too thin. Cheaps bastards @ GM:cussing:

I fixed it for you. :)

I detail cars for a living and can tell you almost EVERY car has colour mismatches between metal and plastic components. That includes prestige marques like BMW and Merc. Ive noticed runs and issues with brand new cars too (i do Pre-delivery for Holdens and BMW)
