on redbook this is the VIN the give 6H8WHY19U1L######
which is different to yours anyway.
Series 2 is Built August and beyond in 2001 going on whats on Redbook.
From what I reckon its the same way that ya can tell the difference between normal statos.
Series I

Notice the difference in the Statesman Badging
Series II

I think the series II also have a different steering wheel with woodgrain.

i have spoken to -HSV- and the series II start as of 7/6/01
the build date on mine is 22/6/01. codes given to me include one labelled A8W which is the code for series 2 international pack as of 7/6/01. does this make mine a series 2 and when did they start making internationals for the series 2?
as of the above pics, mine has the V8 international badgin on the rear bottom left, but not the other statesman one on the right. whereas the top pic is actually a sticker, not a badge

What headlights does it have?
The Series I should have VT type lights that have black shading inside them whereas the Series II has Chrome type Monaro projector lights. Identical to the Monaro except where there is black on a Monaro, there is Chrome on the Statesman International 2. I think that is one of the differences. The LS8 confuses it even more!

probably easiest way to tell series 1 to series 2 ( or VU ->VUII or VX->VXII ) is the blinker arm/indicator switch .If its a big, square boxy thing you got a series 1 ;)

IIRC, the revised IRS came out with the S2 VX, so when was it provided with the Statesman

Yep that is what I have seen as well!;)
With those lights I would say you have a series I.
I have them on my VTII SS!

Did they release 2 lots of the International series I after the first lot sold so well?
I am trying to find an early series I or at least a tag number!

it says only 1 lot was released, but 2 variants of the series 2. i guess its a series II if it was built after the 7th, but maybe it was ordered earlier so it had the series I international pack on it
