Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone can give me some advise on the legal heights in Vic regarding suspension. I bought my VT early this year with a roadworthy, anyway due to circumstances I had to get another roadworthy this week, took the car back to the same tester & was told the car was too low & had to be lifted to pass, so the mechanic said he would bring it up so it would be legal but not stock. Guess what it's now stock & he is refusing to rectify the problem. I bought the car dumped & have not done anything to the car since I bought it. I have photos of the car before I bought it to prove the condition it was in but because I am a woman I feel this guy is taking advantage of me. Any suggestions?:cussing:

The legal minimum is a bit of a convoluted equation which I cannot remember off the top of my head. Nonetheless, the simple way is that if any portion of the car is lower than 100mm from the ground (flat surface) when the car is loaded, or if there is less than 2/3 of the original suspension travel, then the car doesn't comply with the minimum ground clearance requirements.
Your roadworthy bloke would be very loathe to 'lift' the car, give you a roadworthy, then lower the car to a less than roadworthy height - he could lose his licence to perform roadworthy inspections and issue those certificates.
The simple way is to do a check and get underneath with something 100mm in height. If that item touches the car in any position, whilst it is parked on a flat surface, the car is too low.
Good luck with it, but you may have to go somewhere else if you wish for the car to be lowered to an illegal height.
EDIT - just looking at your ride description and seeing that it is an 'S' Pack - the stock FE2 suspension on those was very close to the 100mm minimum ground clearance anyway, so any form of lowering would most likely put you under the limit.
Cheers,
Macca

Although if its the same bloke that gave the first RWC, why change his mind now? If nothing on the car has changed height wise.....
If you have a copy of the first RWC he gave you I would be ringing up VACC..
sounds to me like he is trying to make some money out of you.... Is there anything else he has knocked back for a RWC on the car?
I would be getting a second openion.

The only other thing he knocked back was tyres which I replaced.
I don't want the car illegal, I just want it the way it was not stock. It looks so stupid the way it is now.
Thanks for your ideas.

Has he put it back to Factory FE2 height or just used standard Commodore springs, he might have put the wrong springs back in which is making it look worse.

Its all good, took the day off work did some investigating regarding the original lowering of the car, got copy of invoices from Pedders and went and saw the guy who did the roadworthy yesterday. He was not there yesterday and has given me a written guarantee that the car will be lowered next week at NO cost to myself. I don't want the car as low as it was before as it was too much hassle to go over speed humps, inner city car parks etc, so the car will be lowered to 150cm approx which I hope will still keep her looking like the beast that she is.Thanks to all with your advise. Strike one for the girls.

Glad you got the outcome you wanted:serenade:

150cm.. that will dwarf most four wheel drives :p
Btw 150mm ground clearance is about stock height from the cats.
FE2 in most cases is around 125mm ground clearance.
HSV has it even lower about 110mm...
So 150mm will be EXTREMELY high.
i got about 105-110mm clearance on my car sl front ssl rear. Full car load id be sitting about 60-80mm depending how much petrol i have.
Fingers crossed i don't get pulled over with people in the car or a full tank
