View Full Version : I need to vent....

Ok, so we buy our hsv clubsport, it's second hand but was a reasonable price considering it was a reputable car company, Zupps to be precise.

We are usually fairly quiet people and rarely complain, but when you spend about 30k on a car, new or used, you expect it to be pretty close to perfect just old. The car had a couple of issue's, not much and we got good warranty.

So right about now your asking yourselves, what do I have to vent about?

Here's why, we have had our car for 7mths, initially we had a couple of minor things done under warranty and all was good, except 2 weeks later another couple of minor things happened. Ok the car is a couple of years old so I guess we can live with this so we take it back in. Now this is where it gets painfull.

We get it back and within minutes the same issue's are there, so we take it back. They claim to fix it, we take it again and there was the issues again. So I decide I want to drive my car and hold off taking it back, just so I can actually have some time in the damn thing. This tooing and throwing happens for about 3-4 months.

A bit later I get a puncture, So I rock on over to Beaurepairs and they say the tire is cactus, you need at least a couple of new tires but they were out of stock. Ok NP so I say I will go down the road to another tire place and see if they have any, I ask them to fit the spare...but guess what, the spare doesn't fit, it won't fit over the calipers!

So I am a little annoyed at this point as I ring Zupps. I get a hold of our salesman and he assures me he will get it sorted and have the customer care manager ring us the next day. I leave the car there for some new tires and walk home.

The next morning after borowing our sons car to get to work I get a phone call from the salesman saying that the customer care manager is really busy and will get back to me that afternoon. Guess what, no call. So I wait another day and guess what, no call. So I make a call, rather annoyed, and speak to a manager, he assured me they would have it all fixed. I need to drop the car in, we get a loan car (yay) and they have our car for nearly 2 weeks. We get it back and we now have a functional spare, but we still have all the other problems with the car that I spent an hour telling them about.

So I bite my lip, and leave it for a few weeks, I am determined to get a little use out of the car, the issue's where after all minor. So a few weeks pass and I am really getting the shits with these issue's so I arrange to take the car in, all good they take a note of the three things (damn I forgot 1) and all is good.

The next day I get a call from one of the service departments customer service people, he goes on to explain how they have accidently forgot to lock one of the hoist arms in place and have damaged our car!! WTF!

He assured me they will repair the damage and have it back to us the next day. The next day comes and they aren't finished with it. (no offer of a loan car!) It will be ready the next day. The next day I get another call, it won't be ready, they need it another day (no offer of a loan car). The next day, 5mins from picking up the car, I get a phone call, not happy with the repairs, we need it another day (no offer of a loan car, so I ask. Oh sure we can get you a car!). Pick up the car this afternoon, things look good, there is no visable damage, it's all fixed. Great.

I hoped in and start to drive home and guess what, 1 of the issue's I originally took the car in for was fixed, but the others weren't! Still there!, now one of the issue's was the steering wheel was not aligned correctly, it was slightly lefthand down when travelling straight, now it's slightly right hand down travelling straight. And just to top it all off.... they didn't connect our fog lights up. So yet again I have to take the car in to get shit done, that should have already been done!!!!

As I mentioned before, we have had the car about 7mths, in that time, it has been in at Zupps getting fixed under warranty 6 times, with 4 of those times being for at least a week! And now I have to do it again, and I am sure they will wonder why I am so pissed!

end vent.

hmmmm, thats pretty poor. i suggest that next time you go in, take the person for a drive around the block (service manager) identify the problems first hand to him and have it repaired. give them 2 or 3 days (be specific). pick up the car and take the manager with you again. if its not fixed. tell them while they are in the car (calmly) "this issue isn't fixed sort it out!" it then lies on their shoulders to fix it and get rid of you. they will want to get rid of you, as hopfully you are in their nightmares. so hopefuly they will over see it so it is done properly. Then go elsewhere. hope it works out for you. goodluck.

When I buy a car I void the warranty within 1500-3000k's with mods because I have been through this process so many times it isn't funny.
Apart from some tail light globes being replaced under warranty on a 2 week old car i have never been able to get the dealer to repair or fix anything under warranty.
I think warranty is a load of $hit and don't see the point in replacing the faulty part with another part that is eventually destined to fail.
I wish you the best of luck, but in the end I have decided to just accept that "warranty" is a sales tactic that doesn't really exist.
Have you worked out the time you've wasted?
When I've taken this into consideration it appears that it costs more money friggin' around with the dealer than just taking it somewhere else and having it fixed once and for all.

Sorry about the rant but dealerships $hit me.............

FFH, I can totally understand what both of you have been through and how completely "at a loss" you feel. That exciting feeling of buying a car from a dealership and driving it home has been replaced with dispair, frustration and pain. I have been through it myself...except mine hasn't fallen off a hoist (that I know of).

You have so many issue's here and my suggestion to you is to put everything in writing (similar to your above post as you explained the situation very well) to the Dealer Principle, with copies of the invoices attached. Make a separate note of all of the Repair Order numbers relating to those invoices, so you can separately hand them to the DP and he/she can go directly to the filed Job Cards and pull them to see the mechanics comments/times, etc on the back. This will save time for both you and the DP.

I don't think they can at this point because they are still dealing with issues from the day the vehicle was picked up from this particular Zupps dealership :(. If they want to go to another dealership, it MUST be Zupps and they may not be very helpful when it comes to dealing with another dealerships shortcomings.

Thats correct, at least 2 of the issue's are from when we picked the car up when it was purchased. And we purchased a very good warranty from them as well, one that doesn't have a $1000.00 limit on claims.

For the most part, the car is fine, except for the steering wheel being out of alignment, the front passenger window rattling (which it has done since purchase) and a ticking noise (that has been there since 2 weeks after purchase) the car is fine. Again it's not so much that these things are happening, it's the sheer incompetance of the dealership to deal with these issue's. All they would have to do is keep the car a little longer, spend a little more time and money on it and all would be fine I am sure, but it seems to me they are trying the cheapest way out in all cases and of course not doing the jobs properly (like the fog lights on the new front bar that haven't been hooked up, that's what they broke when it was on the hoist).

We lose usage of the car because they can't get things done right!

I have the email address of the General Manager and will be writing an email shortly, maybe he will be able to get things done.

Talk to the service manager @ Mt Gravatt (Dave) or Dev. Explain your concerns and ask him to intervene to get it resolved. Ive had some great service from there and while the issues arent always solved on the spot they do take ownership, find a solution and give you a timeframe. I know the issues aren't huge but definitely annoying. "Loe" on here works there as well so may also be able to assist (but may sell you a VE GTS)

FFH - I can so relate. Relate so well in fact that I haven't been back to my dealer workshop in two years.

Red has some "issues" with her sensors - ABS, battery and radiator. Battery was genuine (thanks RACV for my freebie), but needed "warranty" attention for the other two...

Fixed the ABS no worries - new solenoid and away we went.

Radiator was another issue. Radiator light came on... hmm. Checked fluid level - A-OK. Rang dealer service and booked her in. Noticed she was due for service, so arranged that as well.

Dropped her off, arranged to pick her up next day (Saturday)... that gave them a whole 10 hours shift to change a sensor and get the apprentice to complete her service... NOT.

Pick her up on the Saturday - radiator light still coming on.

NO RECORD OF THIS ON THE BOOKING FORM. Umm - then what was she booked in for???????

Got the bill - charged for a new sensor (but work not done)

Hmm.

Checked the bill - no service charge.

THAT'S CAUSE THEY DIDN'T SERVICE HER EITHER!

The mechanic wondered why I went off on his ar$e.

Had my car for over a day and did farkall to her. But charged me for the priviledge. What charmers.

Made 'em fix the radiator issue on the spot - in the carpark (refused to give 'em back the keys), and was not budging till she was OK.

Took her straight to my regular guys and handed her over to their tender loving care, and she has been purring like a well fed cat ever since.

Warranty my bum.

Take your pride and joy to someone who not only knows what they are doing - but cares about it too. Soemtimes warranties are a false economy for what they cost in aggravation...

Thanks Voodoo,

I have sent a detailed email to the GM, Mr John Mills. If I get no satisfaction then I will see what options I have through the Office of Fair trading. Of course I would prefere not to have to do that, but push comes to shove, we will do what we need to do to get things fixed, as small as they are.

Sad really, I am of the opinion, you do it right the first time, even if it cost's a little extra and you save a lot of headaches.
