View Full Version : SSV - k's and tyre wear.

Have just ticked over 10000 ks on the SSV and therefore, time to rotate the tyres. Don't want these to scrub out like the 18's did on the VYII.
So who's chalked up the most K's on their SSV, and more importantly, how are the tryes wearing?? How has the wheel alignment held up??

I was going to post something similar, so lucky I used the search button :)
I've just clicked over 17,000k's.. I rotated the 20's at around 10,000k's
and whacked the Nitrogen in them.. so far looking pretty good although I'm pretty sure there is a bit more tyre wear on the insides of the rears.
So far so good!
Getting close to 20k on the standard 18s. Fronts are great, but rears are nearly finished. Outside edges of rears seem a little worse.

Have you had an alignment done yet? I gather the factory alignments can be a bit out. I had mine all aligned after lowering but obviously lowering affected the alignment so I don't really know how my factory alignment was.

thanks guys. the outside of the rears look slightly more down than the insides, but otherwise wear across the width of the tyre seems even. here's hoping they'll get to at least 30k

10,000kms and looking good all round, on my utes rears would be half gone by now, esp helps. The front left outer edge also used to rip up on the vy-vz from hard cornering ,not so bad on the ve.

I was reading something very recently saying that for "normal" people nitrogen is of no real benefit apart from the fact that the loss of pressure from gas escaping through the rubber over time is reduced. Apparently only of real benefit for racing etc..

Yeah it was only a few $ per wheel and free top up anytime. I had it done when getting the wheels rotated. Definately had front and rear alignment and
balance. They alignment was out on the rear so worthwhile getting it checked. I was more worried given the lowered springs and inner tyre wear + the replacement cost of rubber :eek:

My ssv is soon to reach its 10,000 km soon and iv never heard of any rotating of wheels. what is involved is this a holden thing or something you should do just to keep the 19's wearing even

This is a little off topic, but I got 55K out of my original VX SS tyres. All wheels were always balanced and aligned every 10K, I this this is what preserved them

Na every 10thou its recommened to change the tyres correct most tyre shops recommend or dealerships.

For every day use on road for you and me, the only benefit is safety, when you have a puncture it goes down slower than air. This is what they use in the tyres of mining equipment. Nitrogen has a different compression ratio to air. :teach:

Lower temp means less expantion when hot.
Difference between cold tyre pressure compared to hot tyre pressure is reduced.
As others have said, in day to day driving the difference wouldn't be noticeable.
A lot of places do it free of charge when getting tyres or tyres and rims.
First time I heard of nitrogen was in a transport company's 1 tonner service ute. Used to do high speeds, long distances with a heavy load, and they found that the tyres would blow shortly after pulling up at the broken down truck. Changed to nitrogen and problem fixed.

29xxx km here one rear tyre was f@rked at 15000km due to a leaking rear shock so i replaced the two rear tyres and shock with the fronts put new tyres on the front rear tyres are still going good after neaqrly 30000km must be nearly due to smokem:driving:

Yeh just on 25 Thousand.....One track day and run Nitrogen and rotate around 7 to 8......I will easily get 30 out of this set, which will be a record for me on any tyres on any car except my 4WD.....
Nitrogen, from what I am told keeps both pressure and temperatures more even and on longer trips will improve tyre wear internally as well as externally with more consistant temperatures.....I put Nitrogen in for a track day and now just get them topped up at rotation time......No hard evidence but seem to be worth it....Very little cost I think it was $20 for the four when I got it done no cost to top up.
Very pleased with the tyre wear all round obviously much better set up on VE

this is correct i used to work for bob jane t-marts for 3 years the nitrogen also prevents wear cause the tires dont get as hot and expand any thing with indapendant rear suspension always has a problem scrubbing the inside of the tyre with the lower profile tires try putting a little more pressure 36-40psi this also reduces rolling resistance and give u better fuel econamy hope this helps!!!!:idea:
