Funny you should say that because my GTS does it as well. Only the first kick and then it is fine.:werd:

This is definitely a slight whistle (10 secs max),not a knocking sound.

Yeah mine does the same for about 10 sec. Has anyone else noticed when your cruising along at around 90 to 100 and there is a whistle sound only when your foot is on the acclerator though.

I hear the noise sometimes at 40-60 with the radio off. Sonny thanks for the info  , any reason why the ve's seem to rattle a bit on cold start more than others.

The reason why they rattle on cold start up is they have heavier valve springs than the previous models and crappy lifters,so they bleed down overnight.

Yes I've noticed this on my car. You have to listen hard to hear it but once youv'e heard it it is annoying.

My car made the whistling noise on startup when new but I haven't heard it for a while. I have had the rattle on cold start a few times as well. If it's normal though it's OK

My VE SS whistles when it starts as well. It seems to be coming from near the throttle body and only happens when it is cold and idleing fast. So I am wondering if it is something to do with a cold idle function???

I'm not to sure what that is. I have the SV6 and it doesn't do that but I also have an 05 Vectra as does my father and they both make the slight whistle sound when cruising and your foot is resting on the accelerator.

So foar twe've had no problems with that so I guess its just something certain cars do...but would like to know what it is coz people sometimes say when they are in the car..."whats that whistle noise?"

Mines a whistler as well worried me the first cpl times I heard it but then I realised it goes away. Maybe just a PCV valve .

Jobs fine no need to panic

Yep ... mine does that too ... I wonder what it is and how we can stop it. I tried WD40 on the belts/pulleys ... didnt work.

Any updates yet on what might be causing the 10 second whistle just after cold start?

I have recorded it on my phone and showing it to my dealer. It hard to pin point where the whistle is generated from. I know I when I gave my engine bay a hosing the whistle was almost gone but has come back big and strong.

Maybe its catching something through the air box (lol, I have no idea!!)

Cheers

The whistle is the Alternator charging, VE's are renowned for it, as the vehicle drains a little bit of charge over night, when the alternator kicks in to charge it back up, it makes a whisle noise, damn annoying, just like the A/C compressor that now runs all the time and has no clutch, it makes a bit of a tappety noise too

i hadnt seen this thread befor but 6l.club ir right it is the alternator. Dads 06 calais has done it since new and still does it and my 07.5 ss does it also, nothing serious just like whistling dixie.

So Sonny would you suggest getting better lifters if you do any engine work, ie cam?

Cheers,
Andrew

Mine whistles every morning, so I whistle back for a few seconds and then it stops.
