I have An SS Crewman and need new tyres. I rang around and got prices and two different tyre dealers recommended Nangkangs 101 and 605 both are approx $70 cheaper than Bridgestone RE30's. Has anybody got these and would you recommend them. Also are they noisy inside the car.

Before I sold my SS Crewman I replaced the original Turanza's with the RE030's in 235/45 profile. Priced around and got them at Kmart of all places for $1000 fitted and balanced. I did about 15k km on them before I sold the car - they are fantastic tyres, quiet, great grip (much better than the Turanza) and minimal wear that I noticed. Gotta luv live rear axles for tyre wear, I got 60000km out of the Turanza's, and was not especially nice to them either.
I know a lot of people like the Nankangs, but for me tyres are the difference between life and death, so a few extra bucks is always worth it in the long run. Over the years I have used Goodyear, Dunlop, Falkan, Yokahama and Pirelli, for my $$$$ Bridgestones are the best around for performance and value for money. No I don't work for Bridgestone or the tyre industry.
My two bobs worth, enjoy the Crewman! I miss mine (a bit).

ive got nankangs on my SS and have no complaints really, ive had the same set of tyres for over 2 years with plenty of tread left (they dont do many kays and no burnouts-ever), only a slight wear problem on the outside edge of the fronts, but thats nothing to do with the tyres. cant complain about turning grip or braking performance, the rears do spin easily but again probably has nothing to do with the tyres. tyre noise is quite bad but not intolerable. they wont compare with the bridgestones, but are one of the best around for the price range.

Do a search mate and you'll bring up a stack of peoples opinions on the Nankangs. I did one awhile ago and found a tonne of useful stuff.

I can save you the time and sum it all up though...

Basically it is worth spending the extra money if your are able to, but if you are specifically looking for a cheaper tyre then you can not go past the nankangs, which definately seemed to represent the best bang for your buck

A Crewman is NOT something you want cheap tyres on. They are big, heavy, and don't have a lot of grip with their commercially focused suspension settings.
Spend the money on the best tyres you can afford.

Well said planetdavo,....pure gospel!!
My crewie's got Goodyear F1's 225/55/R17 (OEM size and load rated) on it and they are outstanding. The price was a bit:eek: ,though.

Cheers

Chris.
