Mate has just sold his TE50 and was looking to get 40th Anniversary Falcon limited number of them 200. I got him to take GTS and R8 for a drive but despite him actually being quite impressed, just can't make the change to the DARK SIDE as he calls it. Anyway all 200 were snapped up quickly which has left him not a lot of choice after driving teh GTS as even as a die hard ford fan couldn't find to many areas the GT GTP especially for the price are better than the R8 GTS.
Any way Ford guy has him convinced that Ford will do a limited number of Special GT's possible called GT HO with more power rather tahn just suspension and cosmetics. Apparnetly to be released in next 4 - 5 months Possibily at Motor Show.
Has anyone heard whetehr this sounds like Bull or if there is something to it. If nothing on the horizon for new GT HO then might still swing him to R8

They have been saying that for 20 yrs. It would want to be a DAMN special car to be called a GTHO. IMO the current GT is basically a SS Spec car. The BF doesnt have what is needed to have a GTHO badge.

As a previous GTP owner, I agree with Voodoo 100 %. When I bought my GTP in 2003 they said there was a GTHO coming out back then. :lmao:

It would have to be very speical to wear a HO badge I mean their V8's can't compete with their turbo sixes yet so a supercharged V8 my be the only HO contender.

Supercharged 8 would be the only way it would be fitting of such a title..

I would really like to see a new GT-HO come out... Its been a long time in the making if it does....
I think we all need to remember that the HO stands for High Output, so technically as long as it pumps more power than the std GT it would "technically"be a HO... I doubt we would see a supercharged model, look what happened with the failed AU Coupe (that was supercharged).....
Maybe if they developed a stroker kit for the 5.4L they could use that.???
Just a thought, but in all fairness to the blue oval lovers, they are long over due for a Performance V8, and i hope they get it soon....

I thought HO was for handling options, eg better suspension etc. Correct me if Im wrong.

it was originally intended to stand for high output but they (ford) were worried about the Govt an insurance companies having them banned for that reason

i dont think it failed.......it was a concept car and it was never considered at any stage for production
and in my opinion it looked pretty good considering what they had to start with, an AU is impossible to make look good in my opinion, maybe it looked pretty good due to the fact that it wasnt done at the ford studios haha

And GTS seems to stand for "Greatly Tuned Suspension" these days !
And about HO, Wheels or Motor said similar in one of the recent issues - that a HO is coming this year and it will have more power. (hard to beleive though)

i dont know why ford wouldnt bring out a new GT HO, the other retro new cars are doing it and they will sell them so why not, HSV has had success with the GTS namesake, if they are selling falcons with GT badges then why wouldnt they make a limited run of HO'S

It was always meant to stand for High Output. It was changed last minute to Handling Option. Ford caved in to pressure just prior to the infamous supercar scare. :teach:

The first GTHO was a phase one... long time before the "Supercar Scare" and the phase 1 was primarily a Suspension and spoiler upgrade, thus HO = Handling Option.
The Supercar Scare was a several years after the release of the phase 1. :teach:
The Mustangs had a HO Option that Stood for High Output.

I remember when the first FPV's were being releases (BA GT) it was either motor or wheels that said there would be a ho version following shortly. they even had a drawing. That was bloody ages ago so i dont think there will be a ho for a long long time if ever.

Because they are pussies. They have an excellent parts bin that they could delve into to make a modern HO that would cane most other 4 door cars on the road but they just arent interested. They would rather do another poxy stripe and colour combo and expect everyone to wank over that than do some performance upgrades to the car.

yeh tell him to give a GTP a drive, then a phoon then step back in the GTP and watch his face drop mwahaha
I dont know why Ford dont pull their finger out and bring out a GTHO, or even a blown GT would be nice... US stangs come blown dont they?? cant be that hard for em !!!!!

Did drive one and Yes was impressed....He definately wants a manual and seems the auto is better suited to the Turbo......
At the end of the day, even if the F6 goes better, he is a V8 Fan and having a V8 for the last 15 years doesn't look like he is going to change any time soon......
I can't argue that there is nothing quite like the sound of well tuned, exhausted V8......Even if the 6 goes harder.......Hence the wait for the potentail HO which will hopefully go better than the F6

Personally, I think the sackings at FPV have upset the apple-cart big time as far as the planning of product lines/development goes.
Mind you, HSV and FPV are as bad as one another with the sticker specials.

Whilst I believe that most V8 enthusiasts would welcome a GTHO back on our roads, the reality is that despite the global parts bin it makes no sense from a marketing perspective until the Mk2 of the Orion platform.
Looks like we will wait until 2010 at least. IMO anything sooner would be premature and would detract from the new platforms base launch.
Just hope they can make the GTs/XR8s a little more competitive with the Lions current offering. As for the F6 , well I'm a little biased

I know I could search this but have they actually released or confirmed details of the V8 engines for Orion ???
Possibly have a limited run end of the year as a precurser to the V8 in orion ???
Much like the 6 litre in the VZ beofre release in VE

The GTHO was arguably the legendry "yard stick" of great Australian super cars. I can not imagine they would ever build another car and call it a "GTHO".
It would have far too much to live up to.

whats the great difference between then and now, if they were to make new GT HO it would based on the base model 4 door sedan just like it was 40 years ago just a better , faster taxi to some people just like a ve gts is to some people, but diehard ford fans who cant afford an original would love them i think and as already mentioned by buf-phoon ford already have a parts bin with loads of goodies available now, they would easily sell a hundred of them, maybe five hundred

I remember reading somewhere on the Ford Forums that some company in the states did make a stroker kit for the 5.4L..... They couldn't give them away!
The problem there with the 5.4 is that its already an undersquare motor...adding a stroker crank to the mix is only going to make it more...undersquare. Something to do with the velocity of the bottom end parts or some such and that is a bad thing...apparently (I wouldnt know).

Doubt it. Scuttlebutt says that the XR8 may get the GT's 290kw donk and the GT/GTP could have the ante upped to 320kw but that is just what I have read on the innernet.
I think they are hedging their bets on some weight loss over the front axle and more/better tech to get the V8's hustling along a bit better.

The only way a GTHO would have any credibility for the diehards would be if Australian Production racing takes off again and Ford put out a lightened, alloy block modular V8 that was actually track focussed a la GT3! :teach:

It never stood for High Output EVER. Unlike most here I remember them when they were NEW and as I lived at a petrol station, many of them used to fill up and I talked extensively to the owners. That is the NEW owners at a time when GTS350s and E49s were also NEW.
The most obvious evidence that it was never high output in that the documentation showed the same power and the GT and with the original GTHO (the so called phase 1) which is when the name was actually first coined, the engine was a relatively mild windsor not the fire breathing clevo of the phase 3.
But like all legends, the truth usually ruins a good story......
Now as far as a new GTHO later this year. This year, 2007 is the 30th aniversary of the 1/2 win at Bathurst. Ford/FPV have done quite a few commemerative models. Goss, Moffat, EB GT, EL GT, Enforcer, DevilR, GT40th not to mention the odd "fully sik ute".
Betcha yas all beer there is a blue and white model that is called, wait for it, "Cobra"........

Flappist, It is interesting that you mentioned that as my mate has been told and they have accepted $1K deposit on this new one due later in the year. There is just no solid evidence of what they will be called, hence I asked GTHO ?....If it is a Cobra in White/Blue he would jump at it if limited numbers and a bit more power. As suggested by another comemnt above that the new GT GTP Orion may be around the 320kw mark, he is hoping they will trial this increased power in current shape before Orion arrives.

So......... If Ford was to do a 30th Cobra in the original white/blue paint scheme.......... would it be this year........... (29 years later).......... or next year............ (30 years later)...........
In summary........ Ford did not race a blue and white hardtop in 1977
The '77 car was the old Brut33 XB converted to XC front panels if my memory is correct :teach:

No I will put it here. THE 1/2 WIN WAS IN 1977. IT WAS A COUPE NOT A GT.
The original Cobra did not win, Brock did. If they make a special FPV with a V8 engine that is not a GT they would probably give it another famous name.
The 1/2 win is what is being remembered. I just think it will be called a Cobra because that is the name of the most famous Ford coupe. The other option is Superbird but that is a bit cliche I believe.
Whether you agree or not is totally irrelevent, I suspect Ford do not care either. They will do this or not. If they do then maybe it will sell. The 40th sold out in bugger all flat.

Saying that, I think most users on here are car enthusiasts in general, so they take interest what other car makers are doing and producing. Unfortunately there are some idiots on here (as there are on most car forums) that are one eyed and abuse you just because you like something they don't.
Anyway back on topic, if Ford do release a GT HO, it'll have to be substancially different to the GT and GT-P already on offer, not just a rebadged one.
