Hi all, i have read about all i can read on different ways to acheive a 12 second 1/4 mile in my vxssII. Currently i have a Mafless OTRCAI with Pacie Tri-Y's and 2 1/2 twins with hi flo cats. I've yet to attempt the 1/4 mile in the beast but will be at Willowbank some time in the next few months. I have set a goal that my first run will be in the 12's. I am tossing up between 3.9 diff gears and a 2800 stallie. Would i need both to make a high 12? If not what is the best way to do it?

The right stally as well should see mid to low 12's.. Waperf got there clubby down to a low 12 before they went a cam only package.

Talking to people in the know should get you the right results mate

You'll need to change your converter if you're running a cam with numbers greater than 218's on the intake.

i have been quoted $700 for the diff gears and installed, does this sound like a fair price? Did your fuel consumption go up much with the different ratio?

A combination of the 3.9's and TC will have the whole driveline working in harmony..end result for your combo would be mid 12's given your current mods....Simply doing one of the two will result in an uphill battle. I ran 12.86 with 3.9's but minus TC near 3 years ago with near identical mods to yours ... but later could have kicked myself having discoverd 1st hand the rewards a pint size high stall can bring :driving:...just my take

what size stall would you reccomend? my tuna said 2800 would be perfect. i have been looking around but can't seem to find what would produce the best numbers. my cousin had a 3500 stall in his sv99 ut that was over the top constantly breaking traction and he couldn't get a good 1/4 mile pass due to excessive wheel spin.

this above set-up with 4.11's and 4500 convertor will take you to 12.4 instantly, with a bit of peddling on street tyres or easily with MT drag radials ;)

That would not be the fault of the converter....setup of the car would be to blame..eg lowered./ wrong tyres etc.....High Stalls aid traction...especially on unopened cars

2800 will do fine

Yes i asked him his gearbox was slipping at the time and it blew up a couple of weeks later. He never managed a 12 because of the box problem. He replaced the box and sold the car a few months later. Never did see it's full potential. How do 4.11 diff gears travel on the highway? Must rev high?

mmm i don't think that my wallet would like a 4.11 ratio. I have to drive it from gold coast to melb in a few mnths so i think 3.9's look the part at the moment. I'm hell keen to snap off a good time at willow in a few mnths, at least then the missus may see the value in the $ i'm spendin. I'm lowering it next weekend first though. Can anyone reccomend a good setup? I'm installing it all myself but there must be a reccomended height/spring combo that won't make me regret slammin it out there. cheers - matt

Smokie - is you can get your self a copy of the GXM magazine Street Holdens
There is an awesome write up on Marks journey to the low 11's
Shows you exactly what you need to do for a perticular time slip.

I second the "dont lower it till ya run, Consider your drive shafts"
