Well for those interested, myself and KATLAD (Paul) will be heading into
Gary's this Saturday. Paul is getting his CATBACK system and CAI fitted and
I will be throwing on the CAI onto my VE as well. Hopefully with some
Sweet tuning and Dyno time we should see two very happy campers driving away. :)
If any other VE owners would like to come down and check it out, Im sure
Gary will have the jug on!
Will post some photo's up here from the day as well.
Cheers
Curtis.
I will come down for a bit of a looksy

dont laugh. my pushy mate was telling me how he put his pushy in for a service and tune last week.
i could not stop laughing. my lines this week have been:
"is the pushy idling better now?"
"what trans fluid do they use in the shimano box?"
"how much does it cost to put a rip shifter on a pushy?"
"did you put iton the dyno after the tune?"

Hi Jake
Curtis & I are both putting a Chipmaster CAI on, my cat back will be the same as what Curtis has on his car a Powersound system. I met him @ the Nats & he was kind enough to take me for a spin & give me a listen from the outside. It was exactly the sound I was looking for & if I gain some rwkw then it a bonus.
Cheers
Paul

Hey Jake, I don't think so in answer to your first question. I know JKGMH made up some ones to replace the cover and I'm pretty sure Paul ordered one off him and will put it on Sat. There is a link to it somewhere here..
I'm going to wait n see as these covers have gone onto Street Tuna's CAI's and we got the Chipmaster which is a little bit diff.
This is what i'm told anyway ;)
As far as tune, yes muff, I mean maff tune. Will have to wait and see what

Each month you get a new image of Chev in the work shop to colour in and at the bottom of each month is a Chevs voucher for a special discount. This months image is Chev scratching his head and holding his nose with a bonus "Where's Uncle Tone" quiz....

Well guys firstly I must admint when I first started this thread I certainly did not expect the day to turn out so big! So thanks to everyone who turned up, looked like everyone had a good time and great to meet some new faces and
see some very nice cars..
Around 6 VE's including two GTS's
Wonky's nicely presented VE SS looked and sounded great.
Few VX's, Spanks VZ GTO, few VZ's etc.
and of course the Panelvan..
Looking forward to seeing some photo's Simon!
Obviously a special mention to Gary @ Chev's for having us all and doing a
top job on the exhaust fit on Pauls VE SS and the dyno runs for those that
participated.
Few other special mentions:
- TUF057's for help with fitting my CAI and for me nearly poking out his eye with my radiator shroud :shiner: and also for kindly taking my car up and down the street so I could hear it :)
- Gary for providing some KFC @ lunchtime!
- Shep for the chilled crownies!
- All the little kids were exceptionally well behaved including PanoMans Border Collie! I was also very impressed with TUF057's maffless nappy change!
Anyway I'm totally happy with the 245.9 RWKW's and just over 590NM's. The CAI and CAT back exhaust has transformed the car. I can't wait for the tune.
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the dyno run results from others.

Hey guys, great day, and Amie loved it. Great to meet new people, and blown away with Curtis's result. Magic.
Thankyou Gary, Shep for the beer, and whoever and I apologise for not remembering your name, the genius for getting KFC for lunch. Finger lickin' good timimg. Thanks again.
Me, well, I'm down-hearted, however, I have guessed that putting the Sureflo on and not having it retuned has led to this massive drop in power! So, I've asked Gary to look at the comparisons, and I'm gonna look into this possibility too. Even the torque curve is shite now. Amazing what a mod can d to your car...... and in Curtis's case, very very positive, WITHOUT a Tune! Can't wait for that one!
Anyway, check this out, and see you all soon. (BTW, told my wife I need to get it retuned, and suprisingly, she said OK! I don't get it.)
Looking forward to some input on this guys!

Another SENSATIONAL day at Chev's. It was a very good turnout and naturally, it was great to meet a few more LS1ers and look at some very schmik cars.
Chev, you again outdid yourself, Kentucky for lunch and a couple of quiet Crown Lagers hit the spot well.
THEN, you decided to accede to our wishes and run a few cars up on the rollers......
I must say that the results from Curtis' VE speaks for itself - a great un-tuned result with cat-back and CAI.
There was, however, one non-VE 6lt SS that certainly spun a few heads at its result, with the only mod being a full D/F system and a noisy lifter. I'll leave it to the proud owner to discuss the result.
All in all, another great day and full marks to Chev who once again performed professional work AND once again put in a great deal of his own time and effort to put on a good show.
Cheers,
Macca
PS: Delco, very nice looking CAIs too I might add.

Well guys, what a great day it was. Some armature mechanics to start with, Tuf almost needing medical attention after Curtis tried to fit the radiator shroud inside his eye and finishing up with a bit of a dyno shoot out.
I think all of us simply can't thank Chev enough for opening up his workshop and allowing us free rein in there. It's very rare that someone allows the owner of a vehicle in the shop while they work on the car, let alone having a whole group of people hanging around and at least one of us taking photos......
While some were little disappointed in their dyno run, I was stoked. 236 rwkw and just shy of 570 NM of torque from the L76 with out a tune! The full list of mods on the car are...
DiFillipo 4:1 long headers and full 2.5" DiFillipo exhaust. Two hole mod ( 2x90mm ) and CAI. It's not a MCAI, it's a home made one but works the same way. Special "home brew" short shifter with custom Red Gum knob. ( OK, this won't help power, I thought I needed to pad a bit ). Painted engine covers matching the body colour.
That's it, no other mods that could increase performance, but I do run V-Power racing and put a new batch in last night. Here's my sheet for the day...

While we were doing the dyno runs, Uncle Tone wanted to prove that a MAF improves performance under all circumstances. To help prove this point we fitted a MAF to Uncle Tone and put him on the dyno. Unfortunately Chev was a little rough with the exhaust probe and shortly after this photo was taken, Tone needed to excuse himself. We did get a reading that indicated his AFR was on the rich side.....

That's your AFR's not the torque curve.
Maybe a bit too lean? 13:1, 3.5" exhaust's extra flow may have caused that???? :werd:
20rwkw's of that 30rwkw's would be F1's inflated dyno IMO so don't worry about that.

See...! I know so much about cars! Sorry. It looks stupid anyway!
Chev said it looked a bit on the lean side.
would 1.8 on the barametric pressure in difference make such a change to the figure?
The thing is, the gains have increased over time with mods from an initial 218kw, to 228 kw, to 240kw. The torque curves on the other graphs have slowly gotten better. I'll just have to see what the initial reading is in the retune pre-run then post(mafless this time too).
I'll wait until it's done the pre run to present todays dyno sheet to compare differences.
It's probably a hotter figure dyno...... like 20-30kw hotter!

Yeah John, I did, but something was very wrong. It looks to have lost its tune as results were a fraction lower than before the tune! AFRs were more up and down than a bride's nightie so will take it back to where it was tuned and see what's happened.
Unfortunately in the few days since the tune I hadn't really had a chance to try it out as I was either in heavy traffic and/or it was wet (have had other things keep me busy so couldn't get out to give it a good run at my convenience).

She's lookin a wee bit lean, obivously the headers are workin! Either pop in to your tuner or Chev (he does a nice job ive been told and met him once and he is a bloody nice bloke as you know!) and get em to tweak your VE table then tweak your spark a little. If you run lean (as a result of headers) you can get KR (knock retard or pinging at worse) and this will pull timing from your tune and make less rwkw. Also things can affect your tune, eg if you towed a trailer a few days before, if you put bad fuel in (91) and put good fuel in the day (95-98). Takes awhile for the ASPARK to build back to 100% unless you do a PCM reset. You dont just fill up and it goes "YEAH we got good fuel!" it needs to be reassured bit by bit that it is good fuel with no KR.
Anyway, its all good fun, dyno's are just tools. Wish i went to check it out!

Great figures there. Got to be happy with that without a tune.
Do you have one of Delco's CAI kits and is your cat back 2 1/2" or 3". Also do you have a before Dyno figure without the cat back and the CAI.
Also, have you had anything else done to the car (like modified it to get more cold air through the fog light surround etc) and is it auto or manual

Here's some proof that Tuf57 was OK after he was attacked by Curtis for messing up the fitting of his CAI. Katlad still allowed him near his car. By the way Katlad, don't worry too much about the figures you got seeming a bit low.
Your car is still very new and tight. It seems that GMH have installed a "run-in" mode in the PCM that operates for the first 3000KM or so ( probably until the first service ). During this time I noticed that my car used heaps more fuel than just after this "run-in" period. It also occurred after the 10K service when the heads were lifted, that's why I think it's a PCM thing. You made some big changes in one go yesterday and the PCM didn't really get a chance to "learn" the changes. After the trip back it should be feeling a bit different, but as mentioned above, the big change will come after the 3K service.

I just had a brainstrom during the night.!
I believe Holden re-flashed my PCM a month or so ago. There was the fuel guage issue, the ABS light issue and something else. But I remember them telling me they might have to reflash it and upgrade the stock program. At the time I was spewin, but when they didn't mention it after service (40,000k) I forgot about it and went away.
So, MAYBE, just maybe, I've lost my tune! We'll see.
Again, thanks CHEV for the dyno time. I would not have realised now without it.

Thanks for that. Well, have to see what the retune does, then a run down at Chev's to compare. Are you gonna get a retune for the bigger exhaust?
I might contact greg too, and see what he knows from other reports. Must have something to do with back pressure. I don't know. I know Sh^t about cars and am just trying to justify things in my head! Hopeless.
Anyway, cheers.

Cheers
Hello Tony,
Well basically after rumaging through these forums katlad and I decided to go
for the Delco CAI. The silicon joiner setup seems to work well according to feedback from others as well as Dan.
The exhaust is 2.5" full stainless. (same as what katlad put on his one yesterday)
I have done all of my dyno runs on the same dyno @ chev's with the same shootout settings each time.
Dyno results are as follows:
Completely stock and about 2 Months after getting the car -
224.0 rwkw's & around 540Nm's
Cat Back Exhaust about 2 Months ago -
236.9 rwkw's & around 570Nm's
Cat Back & CAI fitted yesterday 17,000kms running Mobil 1 -
245.9rwkw's & around 595Nm's
Nothing else done to the car and it's manual.

Hi M8, sorry I have forgotten your 1st name, trying to remember everybody,
Had a great trip home, I think the lowest the economy got to was 11L per 100km, It went lower than that coming home from the Nats, but it might of had something to do with me flooring off every set of lights to hear the sweet noise my car now makes. the economy did seem to drop very fast compared to what it normally does.
Thanks

OK, here's the first Video from me. It's Daves stock SV6 on the dyno....
( Daves going to kill me :hide: )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwKfvEp7wRU
Sorry Dave I couldn't resist.
Ok, in all seriousness, he pulled an excellent 130rwkw from the stock 6 cyl. This is the same peak power that the VN series 5lt ran so it's a very good result after running through the auto. I'm not sure what fuel you were running Dave, but better fuel would probably pick up a few KW. I didn't notice your AFR's but if like most standard tunes they were rich, then an ethanol based fuel could help. A few have mentioned that their AFR's leaned out with ethanol, so it could be a good option for those with already running on the rich side.
I also happen to think your car looks the goods in the dyno bay....

Sounds like I missed a top day!!!
Was planning on bringing down the B&C's 6.0 VE Calais VE for a look-see and potentially some stealth mods, :p however while heading out to do the early morning shopping I noticed Booran Holden Cheltenham had a brand spankers Silver WM Grange doing some demo work and decided to have a sticky...
Anyway after taking it for an unacompanied :p :p drive :driving: (over 30mins) I forgot all about the dyno day and went into  la la land!!! Sorry Chev.. sounds like you had your hands and rollers full tho'
Although the poor Grange had a fault in its pre delivery state, check engine light, rough idle and bit of a miss at revs... (supposedly arrived from the factory with a fault and had no tech available to check it out, but too many customers wanting a test drive... :werd:) Dont know how this will affect its lifespan down the track as it wasnt a very happy chappy.
Anyway the car is amazing even with the lack of power, clearly from the miss... the MRC definitely makes a huuuuge diference even at low speed under normal driving conditions...
Cant wait to get mine now!!! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
Going back for a retry tomorrow arvo, hopefully it will be sorted by then and I can give a better opinion.

Those unusual AFR's on the gto and Gary's VE must have something to do with the large diameter pipes. The exhaust gas probably shoots a "pocket" of 02 over the wideband sensor. Some Lambda (tuning) plugs pre cats with give us an acurate indication of what air/fuel she is running

No, my heart was just on the floor along with my jaw at such a poor result - thought I had a chance of just pipping Curtis...... :bawl: Didn't see the AFRs till later. Still, it seems you may be right about the AFRs being due to the dual 3" system according to Spank and Chev.

Make sure you do a before run , a run with the exhaust only, a run with the CAI only, a run with the exhaust and CAI,and finally a run with the exhaust, cai, and tune!!
Not too much to ask, izzit?:p

well at least i found out from checking the afr's by lambda plug that the GTO is running rich as, 10.5 afr, so im too rich
titaniums car for some reason has an abs light on and the car is knocking the timing bach by 4 deg, so he's retarded
chev has run out of credits to touch up tunes, so chev has no credability
so between us were rich and retarded with no credabilty!
heres a new air induction set up for the ve's that titanium came up with today, altho we didnt get a chance to prove its improvements on the dyno we feel it couldnt hurt, uncle tone will notice the lack of the maf

HAHA thats a gold CAI!
Shame about the mishaps with the ABS fault Pete.. Im sure it will come together and you will share the story with everyone ;)
At least you know where you stand now Spank with your setup..
So how did Wonky end up today?

1st - 234 RWKW
2nd - 236.3 RWKW
3rd - 236.7 RWKW
Well after the impressive numbers on the stock run, after we had picked our jaws up off the ground .....
Chev wandering around shaking his head and all guessing what numbers we would pull after the powersound and chipmaster CAI instal ... "22 RWKW like Curtis got would be good" ... we decided that was the number!
We did the test after both the instal of the powersound and CAI together, also did an oil & filter change to Mobil 1.
214 RWKW was the outcome ...... blank stares all round. Chev was kind enough to put a scan on the next run and it was established that there was 4degrees timing being pulled out at 4200 rpm .... this was weird.
Took big blue for a run to clear the ABS and Traction Control fault codes ... did not clear.
Disconnected the battery for 30 minutes, took it for another run, slamed on the brakes .... the ABS worked and the fault went away, laid down some rubber and the traction control fault went away.
Back on the dyno, let the car cool.
We managed 240.3 RWKW but with the timing still showing a 6 degree retard at 4800 rpm, the pcm seems to pulling out timing for some reason (detecting detonation (knocking) or some sort of torque management kicking in) this can be clearly seen on the graph where power drops off after being strong and the car "appeared" to lift of the rollers.
Chev reckons 6 degrees at 4800 RPM is about 10 Kw power loss.
AFR's were good at 12.5.
Off the way home the car was farken horny to drive .... I need some tissues!
I am going to take of the CAI this week and head down 1 night to see if that makes a difference.
Certainly not dissapointed but still work to be done.
The CAI that was supplied was certainly very average in quality - which I will take up with the supplier.
Thanks to chev and big guy, KFC was on the menu again.
Curtis and Spank dropped it, Wonky showed for a run after his re tune.
Cheers

I'm sure you could hide a maf inside that pod, might rattle a bit though

The circle shows the "dip" in power.
I would be great to see what happens to the power curve if the "dip" was gone.

We managed 240.3 RWKW
Was that without a tune ?
How did Wonky go after his retune ?

The 240.3 RWKW was without a tune.
Wonky went better than last week. But he can fillyou all in.
Cheers
Peter
The big dip in torque/power was caused by the ECU pulling out 6-7 degress of timing. Not sure why as I didn't hear any engine knock(I'am pretty good at picking up "pinking"):teach: This engine was stock with no tune. It seems the VE are very sensitve to "DYNO" runs with engine and IAT temps. Another VE we ran only had 1deg of retard present on a logged run????? I will need to do some more dyno time on these new beasts.
