Hey guys and gals. I bought my VY SS sedan manual(2 yrs ago) stock except for a single 3" cat back system. Soon after I threw a pair of pacemaker 4 into 1 headers on. At the time I didnt have the cash to get a OTR CAI so I decided to modify the stock box. I cut as much as i could out of the front of the bottom section of the box neatly and blocked the hot air from the engine bay. Then I put a K&N air fiter in and went to my tuner for a maffless tune. My tuner was quite amused at the box since he had not seen it done before, until he looked through the tables on his laptop and was happy with the figures. With only exhaust, air, tune and recently fitting an underdriven pulley kit to my SS its now at 240rwkw I run consistent 13.4 on 19" street tyres at 40 psi. Still have this setup but again considering OTR CAI. Has anyone else done this to their car? What to do? CHEERS GUYS. Dario.

The car seems to be putting out decent power, so unless you want to squeeze the absolute most from it, keep the modified airbox.
Plenty of people have indicated that an otrcai will lower your quarter mile times, so if that is your aim, the otrcai would be a good choice.
I recently put an otrcai onto my car and it certainly made a difference with intake temps(lower and respond back to ambient quicker) and the engine feels stronger. I'll have to wait for a dyno run to see whether it freed up some more rwkw.
Cheers,
Macca

I would keep the stock airbox if its a street car. By all means get an OTRCAI for track work (they work well), but I have seen first hand what half an hour of dusty roads does to the intake, heads and valves on an OTRCAI equipped car and it aint pretty.

Thats the only reason I did not get an OTRCAI. I ended up going the GTS 300 MAF + MCAI for peace of mind.

Interesting......care to elaborate?
Went and checked mine and found it to be no more dusty than my normal set up before i went this route,Sydney being very dry and dusty at the moment.
Just curious because i went the way of OTRCAI without a single thought on what you are touching on!Surely thats why they're supplied with a filter for street use!

Thats why it would be a good idea to properly clean and oil you filter every 5000kms or less if travelling on dustier than normal roads. I'd do mine at 5k regardless though. :teach:

I had an OTRCAI installed at the last round of mods. Apparently worth a few KW but was not really happy with the increase in noise levels. If I had my time again I would not have done it, as mine is purely a daily commuter street car.

What do you mean by noise, the induction noise? My old VN V8 had the loudest induction noise that people could hear it from ages away. If that's what your talking about you really are a OLDmanmunro

That's right young fella.
With the induction noise, high lift cam, heads, 921 valves and exhaust I sure cant sneek up on anyone anymore.
Hey, my cat is older than you junior!
