Hi guys

I need a new Diff for my VT as my current diff is starting to play up.
My cars mods are: Custom 2 half exhaust with try-y extractors and hi flow cats. OTRCAI and Mafless tune. Car runs a treat but my standard diff cant handle the power and is beginning to clunk.

I was wondering whats a good Diff and gears for my car? i hear ppl sayin that 3:9's are great but bad for highway driving, 3:7's are good but more ppl have been telling me to get 3:46's. So i dont know...i drive the car everyday. Also how much would a new diff and gears normally cost also do you need to get ur speedo recalibrated?

Cheers guys.

i had 3.46s went to 3.9 no trouble with hwy driven and it gets up of the mark much Betta now mines a 6 speed as well. more torque as well

You will have to get your speedo recalibrated, however this should take your tuner about 2 minutes (if you have a manual) to do so it shouldn't cost you an arm and a leg. Not sure whether you have to adjust shift points etc with an auto or not when changing diff gears?

3.9 is the way to go for an M6. You could even go as far as a 4.11 if you wanted. People can correct me if im wrong but I don't think there is much difference between a 3.9 and 4.11. Revisit your tuner to get the speedo recalibrated, is a 5 sec job.

For a A4 people seem to go for the 3.7. Again revisit your tuner as with a A4 your shift points will need recalibrating too.

Depends if the diff is out of an Auto or not. If it's an auto it'll have the same ratio as what you have now (3.07:1). If the HSV was manual it will have a 3.7:1 diff in it and will need recalibrating.

Check to see whether the diff is coming out of a VT Series 1 or Series 2. If its a Series 2 what I said above will be correct. However if its a series 1 manual diff I have a feeling that will be a different ratio again.

Daz
