Could someone straighten me out and tell me if the engine (X18XE) in my 2001 Astra is equipped with variable valve timing?

I've been told it is by some people, and also that it isn't by others.

I need help before I decide on installing an SAFC NEO.

Thanks.

Definitely no VVT (I also just sold a 2001 Astra with that engine).

Actually, the 2001 should have the Z18XE, which is the 90kW Euro III version of the X18XE.

Cheers for that. Any good ideas on improving my engine performance excluding bolt on turbos and replacement engines....?

Check the opelaus forum for info.

I believe they are doing ECU remaps for more power and better fuel economy these days. Extractors and a decent exhaust will improve power and I believe the Vectra C intake pipe can be fitted as a CAI to the Astra

As I said to someone else who asked the same question recently, save up and buy a car that was fast when it came from the factory in the first place. Much, much easier in the long run than modifying a slow car to turn it into a fast one.

The Astra is a lovely car and goes well enough, but it's never going to be a performance car without serious work.

^^ Thats all well and good but quite a few people cannot afford insurance on a V8. It may not be speed he is chasing either but a bit of extra urge for the 'traffic light grand prix'

The TS series Astra has great handling characteristics as well. Rear swaybar and some castor bushes transform the car though :) My Girlfriend's 2.2L SRi absolutely hugs corners and sticks to the road like glue

Iamhappy46, you nailed it mate. I don't wanna have a V8 munching 4 cyl. You put it oh so accurately....traffic light grand prix. i'm not gunna race the damn thing. just give it some more oomph and then work on makin it look sweet.
