Okay I have decided to keep my car and convert it to a 6 speed manual as I can hopefully do the conversion under 4g by the end of this month. I am going to buy a 6speed for $2000 to $2500 and get 3.46 gears for under $200 and get it all fitted and installed maybe with a ripshifer. Tex clutch is going to wait for a month or two as I need to renew my registration at the end of June.

Originally I was going to sell my car for $16g (well tried to but didn't happen)and I was going to buy a manual car but it would be around 19-21g so fark it I will just convert my car and spend the same amount of money anyway. And atleast I know my car is realiable and not going to cost me money on repairs as knowing my luck I will buy a car with a manual and spend hundreds and thousands on repairing it.

So by the end of this month I will hopefully have a manual in my baby

Dane.

the gearbox new? you should look at putting 3.7's in the diff now as you probaly will look at upgrading these later?.

why do you want a manual
lately i have been thinking about changing to an auto after going for a ride in auto with stally

Yeah but I can get 3.4's for under $200 and to get 3.7's will cost be $1200 so they are gonna have to wait. The gearbox has only done 40,000ks but if I don't get that one I will get Sonny to get me one (second hand).

Because I am sick of automatic's and I have never had a manual v8 before and I am just dieing to get one. I could get a stally if I want but I really want a manual I want to be incontrol of my car. Hey we could do a clean swap if you want and get Sonny to install it all for us and go halves in what it will cost????

Good choice i think doing the conversion instead of selling and buying again(better the devil you know).
Too bad your not putting a tex in now, cause you will have to pay the labour again when you do change.

yeh, maybe wait till you have enuf to do the conversion with tex and rip shifter as you'll have to do it eventually anyway...

Yeah Dane I know its killing you but best to wait to have enough cash to pay for the tex at least (could do the ripshift your self) otherwise you will have to pay twice for the labour... Might as well do it right though

It will be worth it in the end.

Good luck with it Dane, if you can source the parts at a reasonable cost, you'll be a happy cog-swapping camper in no time.

Cheers and keep us posted,

Good on you Dane you will enjoy the manual but really 3.9's are the go. BTW you will have plenty of opportunity to test out different tyres on the rear now with a m6 , thats if you wear em out like I used to.

cheers

lol i will be testing alot of different tyres now mate as I am just going to love this manual. :yahoo: I will be doing the 3.9's and tex a month after the conversion as I need rego for the car at the end of June anyway.

Dane

P.S I know I should get everything done in one hit (tex clutch) but I am only going to have 4g at the end of this month but I could always get a small loan out for $3000 and get a tex and 3.9's. Ahh what the heck I will ring the bank tomorrow and get a $3000 loan and get it all done.

interesting, as of lately ive had a few wanting to go the other way as they are sick of changing gears....

my opinion a4 with 3.9's, so add 3.9's and save ur money, see at the moment u think its a slug. Just do the 3.9's and decide from there if u want to persist with a manual.

Cmon now your just trying to confuse him  well maybe with 3.9's a big stallie and retune ... hmmm . :deal:

You could have said that autos were quicker and started a real shitfight here.

Tbh it's nice not having to shift gears in the car , I shift plenty when i'm working so appreciate just driving off the right pedal sometimes. :driving:

cheers

trying to confuse him.....:p nah not really.

he would have gone 3.9's anyway down the track, so why not go 3.9's now, and then see how it goes, or if he even likes it....i guarentee he would stay with 3.9's, a4 and a tune.

:werd: I think I will stick with the 3.9's idea considering auto came out stock with 3.07s and Manuals were 3.46's so yeah I will do 3.9's thank's for your opinion anyway (not).

I know that .. I did the conversion from auto to manual .. I kept the gears because one day I will go a FI route ... 3.07 will give better traction, whilst being able to use each gear effectively from whoa to go.

So you are serious, lol I thought you were having me on. I am just going to go the 3.9s and keep the other gears for a spare then though I am not going F1 anytime soon and not in this car anyway.

I tend to agree here Kurt, unless Dane's only goal is 1/4 mile times, the 3.07/9 is a good ratio, especially when married to the M6...

When i finally get my new diff (as i got dudded when i got the car its only got a single spinner) i'll be opting for a lower ratio as i tend to do a bit of HWY driving...

Nothing like doing 500 rpm at 200 km/h in 6th cog on the freeway for 2L per 100:thumbsup:

i converted my VT from A4 to M6 a few years ago.. with a $1700 clutch, the whole conversion cost around 5k.. as kurt said, the 3.07 + 6 speed is an economy machine.. i used to do trips to qld, 125kph on the highway at less than 1500rpm...

1st gear is just under 100kph, and 6th gear @ 125 is 1500 rpm ... never had any problems with it in 3 years.

im not sure how kurt finds his, but mine was pretty good down low, because first winds out so far, you can stay in 1st longer and second pulled just as good

I usually get beaten off the line against cars with quicker ratios (obviously), but when they are changing into 2nd I am still in first with full torque and by the time I get to 2nd I usually have the neck in front ... OTR and good tune do help as well :)
