View Full Version : VS or VT GTS?

Hi All,
After recently selling my VX GTS I ordered a brand new MY07 STi, which I must say is just an amazing machine! I love my V8's - but credit is due here, the STi is an awesome car. The handling is mind boggling, and it has some go too!
Anyways, as I still love my V8's I've decided that I'll get myself a weekend project car - something that I can leave for weekend cruising duties and tinker with.
My question is, would you get a VS or VT Series I GTS. I want to get the Aussie 5.7L, as I have a soft spot for the ol' Aussie Stroker and plus, I love the sound of the Aussie motor. I'm leaning towards the VS GTS.
What do you reckon??
Cheers

I would say the VT, it would be more expensive but its worth it as you get more of a car with the VT. Depends on your taste of car really.

Oh mate ... VS ANYDAY ...Clubby in cherry black ... nice height... nice exhaust ... nowhere near as quick as the sti ... but nice cruiser

eh,
as much as the newer VT sounds nice, Id steer towards the VS. But thats just me and my "dont ever buy the first series of a new model" thing. Actually, from the top of my head ive seen more good-condition VSs for sale than VTs....I think VTs need a fair bit of loving to keep.
Plus, the extra $$$ on the VS will either get you a much neater condition vehicle, or some nice mods.
What about a VS Senator with the stroker? All the go of a GTS, with some nice luxury bits.

One question... why did you get rid of the VX GTS for an STi?

If you can handle the older interior compared to that of a VT or VX GTS, I'd go for the VS GTS, they will always look real tough..

Cheers for the feedback!
Yeah, the VS just seems to do it for me, although I know that you get the harrop brakes with the VT and the 'newer' shape, but there's something about the VS that I love!
Alexs - I had to make a decision on the VX GTS, whether to keep it and do work on it, or get something new. To be brutally honest the GTS, as nice as it was, just didn't have what I was after. I wanted a car that could be truly fun to drive everyday and the GTS just didn't do that for me. For other people it would be perfect, but for me it wasn't. I was going to have to spend dollars on it to get it to where I wanted, which I decided against doing. So, I looked around at what was on offer and took the STi for a spin and was truly blown away. The dealer was caning the thing on the test drive around the industrial area and I was completely speechless afterwards - ordered one the next day. This hurts me to say it, but the STi simply kills my old VX GTS. (Remember, the VX is 6-7 yrs old now) But as I still love my V8's I want to get a cruiser, hence my query on the VS and VT GTS's.

Is the VS much lighter than the VT. That would sway my choice.

A nice condition VS GTS!!!!
would only consider the VT for the C4B. VS wins hands down.

I actually like the look of the VT GTS with the ol aussie stroker 355cu. I would say the VT's chassis would be more stable and have a more solid feel, the kind of qualities you want for a cruiser.

Yeah the VS series are a fair bit lighter, my old VS was 200kg less than my VX.

I dig the VS GTS's the VTs, I almost prefer the look of the VT SS to the HSV's

Just remember your going from a RWD car to a AWD Turbo car so of coarse its going to seem a little quicker :driving: however, on the other hand turbo a good ol' aussie V8 as you say and then compare the STi to it............:yahoo:

as for "dont ever buy the first series of a new model" thing. Actually, the series one VT would be better than the oil burning, piston slapping first genIII. i would prefer the VT, nothing bad about the VS, and i would never knock one back, but i just love the style and look of a VT. Its the car that was to make or break holden. The VT was awarded, for the fourth time, the prestigious Wheels Car of the Year for 1997 and remains the best selling Holden Commodore to date.

My VX GTS had an LS1Edit and a full exhaust. My new STi still feels quicker, but as you say, it could be because it's a lighter AWD car. But at the top end my GTS would be storming back.... until a corner arrived..
Also, I got the STi as I like to hit the track and my GTS just wouldn't be up to it like the STi is..
Don't get me wrong, I'm not into bagging V8's or turbo 4's.. these are personal observations from driving both cars - I love them both, I still love my V8's and always will - that's the purpose of this thread - what cruiser to get. whadya reckon.. VS or VT1 GTS??
Cheers

In my opinion can't beat the VS Senator Stroker - in manual of course :)
just saw this

i'd be inclined to get the VS - i had a panther VSII clubby and it was a great car.. a little slow for my liking (why i got my vt ls1) with big bucks required for any sort of power but it was comfortable, rode well and sounded absolutely horn with its 3" exhaust + genie tri-y's.
vote 1 VS GTS

i may be a little biased but VS GTS for sure. with the lighter body and all that torque, you cant go wrong

Drive them both and then make your decision. An XR8 Sprint would be an interesting one to explore.

this ones a tough one.
the VS GTS looks HAWT, lighter, etc but the interior...plain...:spew:
the VT GTS is newer looking, interior better, rear tyre wear issues with camber, heavier...
hmmm.....
personally i cant decide

Didnt the VT engine get the roller cam upgrade or something?
I previously owned a VR GTS and loved it, also owned a VT with fe2 and 5.0 which wasnt as quick but was still a great car.
I think youd be happy either way to be honest.

Camber kit to correct the tyre wear issue is around the $400 mark from memory?
Speaking from someone who had a VS GTS, deny yourself nothing. Go and find yourself one thats in mint condition. The GTS is the sort of car that someone is likely to have gotten as a toy and kept it in mint condition.
The ol 5L stroker will give you what you cant get easily out of the LS1 - Nut tearing torque from idle (The stroker makes the same amount of torque at idle, as the 5L does at peak!!! ). With all this torque it makes them sensational to drive and the 6 speed box is a plus.
NOTHING will look as good as a really really clean VS GTS with a nice set of rims (dump the 3 spokes, put a nice set of 19's on). Here is what mine looked like.

If you dont mind buying an older car I would definitely go the VS GTS. I owned a VS Senator and I reckon they are still one of the best looking HSVs.
RYZZ thats the hotest looking thing ive ever seen VS all the way!Thx Mate, small it probably resembles 1000's if pieces now or has been rebirthed somewhere :bawl:

Thanx guys,
Yep, I've pretty much decided on VS. Now I was gunna say GTS, but the Stroker Senator may be worth a look as a few of you have said. Cheers for the feedback.
When I get it I'll post some pics - might take a while as I'm pretty damn fussy...:)

What about a GTSR?

What about a GTSR?
There is one in town here and it has aged terribly (excluding the overall condition which is not too bad). Stick with the GTS or Senator

..cheers and many thanks!! Your blood is worth bottlin'.. (probably cheaper than fuel at the moment too)...Thanks Again.
Also check out the Carsales.com.au site and use the research car option. Has lots of information on all different models, including gear ratios, weight, standard vs optional etc.

Deffinitely VS GTS go Silver Mink looks like that's what Ryzz had. I had a VS clubsport in that colour like cherry black it was a HSV only colour that looks great in different light conditions, anywhere from gold to silver. I think VS dash in HSV in grey (not blue/grey) was probably better than VT which i never liked, crap glovebox lid etc. VS 150kgs lighter, cheaper and better than S1 VT.
