Hey Guys,
Pretty simple question here, if you had the choice of the following, which would you choose?
1) Manual exec, nothing special inside (not even power windows)
or
2) Auto Berlina/Calais
Presume condition is the same etc, model range is VT/VX.
Which would you choose?
Auto Berlina/Calais without even thinking about it twice. But aren't they worth a whole heap more?

Neither! Senator manual. More luxury than a Calais.

Go the auto! When I brought my ss it was a toss up between a manual with an extra 10,000 kms or an Auto with leather seats etc. I took the auto and have never looked back. Manuals are great and all but in the city auto is the way to go. I'm so glad i just throw it into gear and drive. At the end of the day if it's the same price look to which has the better resale value i guess. My 2c

Well, here's 2 votes for Senator Manual.
Good luck in your hunt for one!

If you want a manual I would just build up more funds and get a decent one (assuming your talking about holdens? save up for equivalent model SS)
If you want a auto then go for it
personally I enjoy driving a manual so decided to get one. Could of got myself a smick calais with heaps of luxury features and just as low a km for a slightly lower price but I wanted a manual so to me the extra cost was justified. plus I was not really too fussed on stuff like climate control and shit...
Happy with an SS :D

Well I have an auto ss only because the better half wanted a berlina wagon for the kids and I wanted a manual ss. We met in the middle. I hate autos in town out of town anywhere. If you want to drive a car to it's full potential I think you need a clutch. You just cant beat that feeling of dropping the clutch or a good bit of heel-toe braking. Not to mention better fuel economy. In a manual you're in charge not some bit of electronics making decisions for you. I get more of a kick out of giving my old vs s-pack work ute a good thrashing than the ss as i have more control over what the car is doing although it sounds crap and is not as quick. I know people will say what about a sequential box but I don't care IT HAS NO CLUTCH! IMO it is not a sports car if it's not a manual. That should get some people offside.
I feel better now I think I'm still upset I caved in to the auto
I think that was a vote for the manual.
Auto's are for lazy people me thinks
Cheers Cam.

I drive a Calais, so I guess my choice is obvious.
BUT, if you really want a manual buy one. I reckon you can make do with a lower luxury level than you'd like a LOT more easily than always regretting your choice of transmission.

Mmm yes manuals are good but with the amount of power new cars are making it's just as fun throwing in a small stallie and concentrating on keeping the car pointing straight rather than when to change gears. Don't get me wrong i love a good manual but i agree with the older you get theory. Give me plushness any day:D

Interiors are over rated :D
Bare as nails Manual, nothing to break..
Bare as nails Manual, nothing to break..
There's the words of someone that's never had to replace a clutch :p
Go the Calais.
It's easier (and I suspect cheaper) to make a Calais a manual, than it is to put all the luxury items in an Exec/SS.
I love my SS manual, but really wish that I had got a Calais for all the nice luxury bits.

What would I choose in the 9 to 15K LS1 market ?
 Go the Statesman
1/ it's cheaper on the 2nd hand market than the SS
2/ A larger car that carries itself capably, many with sumptuous leather all round, huuuge rear leg room,Very controllable on the edge...outfitted with the most basic of bolt-ons and tune has the grunt to give young punks of doof doofmobiles a REAL lesson in fast driving in a air-conditioned, gentleman-like comfort. .....oh yes....and its auto to boot :yahoo:
Just my take ;)

Ilkington, you really are pathetically weak.
Look at this way:
-You go through cars faster than you grow facial hair
-Every car you buy you're not entirely happy with in one way or another, which results in you selling it after a few months
-You have gone on about wanting a manual LS1 for God knows how long
-You have recenetly owned a manual twin turbo Liberty and said it was much more fun than your auto cars
-You test drove an auto ls1 calais and didnt like it much
FFS, buy a manual LS1 VT2/VX SS. They are cheap
Least in the SS you have trip comp functions(granted not a 3 window display but still sum kool gadgets) and you have electric windows.
If you get another hobo car which is upforale a month after purchasing, Ill knock you on your ass the next time I see you:p

That'd be 3 votes.......
There are some around, you just have to have a look. Still a little pricey, but you get a very good package.

Senator is out of the budget (unfortunately) as me and the missus have bought a house... so $15k MAX is my budget. I'm sure I can find a VTII SS for less, but SS has a higher insurance cost... I like the idea of the sleeper exec, but knowing me that'd wear off pretty quick ;)
I'm hopeless :teach:
WH Statesman is off the cards as well, as I doubt my missus will be able to park a tank :p

Congrats on the house beanhead:p
Ilkington, you will be able to find a Nice VT2 SS for under 15k and even VX SS's these days. Maybe put it in Haleys name for insurance purposes
