Hey Guys,
I tried doing a search but nothing came up.
All i want to know is if i put a cam in my engine does it void the RWC and do i need to get a engineers certificate:cussing: . I was having a conversation with a mate the other day and i expressed the interest that i wanted to get my car cammed:yahoo: , he told me that he thought:teach: that once i do that no-one that fits them will tell me unless i ask but it actually makes the car unroadworthy and i need to get the exhaust (air/fuel ratio) tested and it would keep failing because of the cam having higher air/fuel ratios, therefore i couldnt get a RWC because of the emmissions.
:teach: Can anyone throw some light on this???
Cheers
Chris

i think ya mate needs to do some more research,it wont make your car un road worthy, but will emmit more fuel emmisions but thats what the cats will look after.

A RWC and an EPA emissions test tend to be two quite different things. A car with a cam can be roadworthied and registered. If it's a stupidly lumpy cam, you might reasonably expect it to attract attention of some form.
I've never heard of an engineers certificate being needed for a cam change.

Huh? It's extremely difficult to get a cammed car to pass emmissions. Even the C4B engine with quite a small cam had a very hard time getting ADR'd apparently.
Technically your car will be unroadworthy as it wouldn't meet emissions, but it probably wouldn't be a problem...

Basically, the answer is "maybe".
If you put in a small cam, chances are that it will have little to no effect on the emissions of the motor. So it will still pass the required tests for both sound and fumes. However once you put a louder exhaust on, you may be too loud already. Add to this the fact your car is of an older vintage and may fail emissons tests as it is now.
If you check the Vic Roads site for vehicle modifications, you still need to pass all ADR's that applied to the car when it was built as well as passing all the emissions requirements it had to when new. This just means you need to be careful on how you do your mods, as adding a cam and a good tune may see you with less emission than stock with the right combination.
There was a thread a while back on the "legalities of modifications" but I can't find it. It's very good though.
