I have read many threads with many different ways and products for cleaning oil residue off the inside of my manifold. Is there a clear cut product/technique for said job?

bit of crc on a clean rag.

It's only oil.

Depends... are you removing the manifold - or trying to clean it in situ ??

Can you get them nice and clean on the car or is it not attcheivable?,I would rather not take it off if I can get it clean on the car.

Very hard to determine just how dirty they can get - unless you have one of those camera probe thingies. Also if there is a lot of crap, and you clean it in situ, then you will simply be washing it down into the head/bore area which might cause other problems.
If you are really worried about it - then invest in some new gaskets & remove the manifold. Don't forget to clean the trottle body etc while you're at it. Should be a pleasant way to kill a couple of hours one weekend....

Just done mine a couple of weeks back, take it off remove fuel rails and injectors as well as MAP sensor at rear of manifold.
Spray inside with some engine degreaser, leave for a few mins, then water blast. then blow excess water out with compressed air and hang up to dry out.
Came up like new !

It was a manifold that I am setting up with billet fuel rails and larger injectors, just wanted it all spick and span to do the job right.

Excessive oil in the inlet can lower the octane of the incoming air/fuel charge and cause knock, as well as carbon build up on pistons and combustion chambers.
The carbon build up can cause pre ignition - starts glowing when you give it a good flogging and ignights the fuel before the spark plug fires.

I have excess oil build up in my manifold and am just about to take it off. After you unbolt the fuel rails, do the injectors just pop out still attatched to the fuel rails ? or is there something else holding them in like a clip ? To me it looks like they should just pull out but just want to make sure.

cheers

You shouldn't need new gaskets they are reusable, which is just
as well as they are near on $300 I believe. Took me about an
hour to remove my LS1 manifold and replace with LS6 using
a detailed guide supplied by one of the blokes on this forum.
I will have a dig around and see if I can find the link for you
DAZ :)

The actual injectors just push in. The wire that goes to each injector
is held on by a little metal clip. I removed the clips with a pair of
needle nose pliers, it is very easy :)

Thanks Rod..Is the LS6 mod worthy?

Doesnt the VX and on come with the LS6 manifold as standard?

cheers jezzab,

I worked it out today, but ran out of time to put it back together. I'm giving the manifold and throttle body a real good clean. I don't have an air compressor so it will take a while to dry. It was worth doing because I found a coolant leak from the throttle body that was hidden. I'm now thinking before I put back together I should put in a catch can.

Definitely mate, mine came with the bigger injectors as well. Good
news is your car already has it :)

Pretty sure they did, but a quick check of the number that is stamped
on the manifold will confirm this. They are listed in the parts thread I
believe.

If the hose is stuffed to the TB just do the TB bypass. search the forum on it, might as well and 1rwkw is 1rwkw they all add up...

Might as well do the T/B bypass mod while it is off, if you haven't
already :)
