Love the toris but the HK bathurst has been my favourite oz muscle car for years, great shape.
Mate has had 2 of em, before they were going for 150g
Seen a 186 hk munro for 55g, 15 years ago I seen em for 10ish.

The thing is guys most people dont know much about the L34, only 263 were made and most were raced and crashed and only about 35 are left in original condition they are as rare as. They came out of the factory with a full race motor with all the hot bits standard. If you ever get a chance to read the history on them it will blow you away what they had way back then.
Anywhay I will scratch my head a bit more, I owned a HK 327 some time back
and to be honest they drove a bit like a truck, but still a great car

L34 gets my vote, even better if it has the optional engine package.

Keep the banana. Sure enough the price on munza's may be up there at the moment but the L34 only recently became classic (over 30 years) or vintage or whatever the damn hell the call it. Anyhow the Torrie will be worth way more in a few years once all these prices settle down. I mean look at what the munza's were fetchin a few years ago compared to now the same thing will happen with the torries if the release the new one they have been thinking of letting out, even if they don't prices will still rise. I'm not a big fan of the munzas and having owned a 308 lx torrie before i can vouch that it is one mean machine which out performs the monaro in every way. They look way more horn also. If i had the $$$ you were chasin for the torrie i'd pay you whatever you asked but i'd haggle you on a munza. I miss my torrie (damn women drivers t-bonen' me at a red light!) my 2c anyhow

Evening,

I had a 350 HT back in 73, I still have fond memories of that thing, and cold sweats thinking about my selling of it since.

It was a mongrel, but shit, if you put the boot into it and had the courage to hold the sucker flat, it would bring a smile to the face that I could not explain to the younger IRS/ABS/ETC brigade.

Cheers,

I had an SLR5000 (nearest thing to the L34, although nothing like it)

My advice would be the L34 as I believe it would be less maintenance and miles more fun to drive.

Resale value, the L34 would also be a better proposition.

I believe unofficially they were the fastest production car produced in Oz - I say unofficially because holden quoted the same power output as the SLR5000 - anyone that has been in a real L34 (or built a 308 to L34 specs) will know what I mean.

I remember reading that in standard form, the L34 was actually slower than an SLR5000.Until you changed the exhaust system, which became a whole other story.
(BTW.stick with the L34)

What do the HK's go for these days? I have an uncle with a red one , obligatory black stripe and aunger 5 spokes. he's owned it since about 1974. Stock as a rock. At age 8 it was my introduction to fast cars!

Shannons sold an all original HK 327 (yellow with black stripes) for about $210K a little while back....

Thanks Guys
Thought I might give you a quick and only part run down on what a L34 has
Heavy crank and bolts, groved bearings, forged pistons, rods, high volume oil pump, baffled sump, cam, roller rockers, big heads, modifyed inlet manafold, twin point distributor, twin coils, high volume fuel pump, extractors, lightened fly wheel, haromonic balancer, thicker engine block, and this is only the motor befor you look at the suspension ,diff, wheels, brakes, 3/8 fuel line,
also a good one for you the 4 barrel Rochester has a manual choke, so as you see these cars are just an amazing thing for there time
Thanks again guys.

L34? yeah, another torrie.
But depending on how good it is, an original HK327 wins hands down IMO.

What a tough one. The car that started it all for Holden in their quest for victory at the mountain or the car that was THE most successful car ever in Holdens race history throughout the L34 & A9X years with the king himself being behind most of those decimating results. I love the HK & would dearly like to own one even though they do steer like a truck. They just look sensational. Having said that, genuine low km musclecars like yours are not dime a dozen & cannot be replaced with ease once you part company. The L34 as you have stated had a lot of good bits dedicated to making it a race winner. Do a search on you tube & listen to Brocks car screaming up mountain straight in the top ten shootout, it gets the emotions flowing. The Monaro would have to be something very special (condition wise) for me to make the swap if I were in your shoes. The other factor is that when you do drive your pride & joy even if it's on a rare occasion it's nice to enjoy it. The L34's or any V8 LH/LX's for that matter that I've driven & tuned feel like a race car of the era. They look, feel & sound tough, they even handle quite well for an older car. They also seem to make more induction noise in cabin than most cars, must be less in cabin sound deadening or lack of dash area maybe, gets the heart pumping either way. They are one hell of a tough car & the most modern of that 70's supercar era. I wouldn't rush into it, they are both very special cars, chose wisely.

Check this out.

You might have to copy & past it into your address bar, sorry I'm not sure how to create a link.

It's the A9X & the picture quality is crap but you'll get the idea.

Mate keep the L34....it's YOUR car and can only go up in value as 1st generation cars like the HK 327 and GTHO become to expensive. But if the HK is a genuine HK 327 Bathurst you would be trading up in value I guess.

You will regret selling your baby if it's mint and you know the car inside out.

Personally I would be happy with either.
