I was just wondering how everyones experiences have been with their cold air intakes, has anyone had any bad run ins with them and how is everyone liking thiers?
Im absolutely loving mine ive had it for a few months now, the roar of it along with no resis on the pipes at WOT is amazing and it makes me smile every time even thinking of it :p and the noticeable power increase is pretty impressive for the $$$ spent, overall best bang for buck hey! even uses less fuel, makes the exhaust louder which is :woohoo:. Has anyone else noticed intakes can make the exhaust louder???

They make the biggest difference on stockys for some reason ay. Mines a mix of things, its got the two biggest holes i could physically put in the airbox mod :) , k&n, honeycomb piece removed from maf, and 4" yella terra pipe :).

You do know that that piece of mesh in the MAF is there for a reason don't you. Its to ensure smooth airflow over the sensor element to reduce spurious readings.

Haha thats funny as. What name would you give to a tune like that? Half Mafless?

lol yeah i know its there for that reason, but it does sound and go alot better without it, surprisingly i havnt noticed any negative irrigularities about the engine without the honeycomb, but to be honest i do not believe that a piece of honeycomb mesh can influence a temperature sensor reading, if anything it should give a more accurate reading as more air would pass through in a time to not be affected by engine bay temps. It squishes the intake size to about a 20 cent piece i noticed

have you thought of going mafless? the bum-in-seat-metre will go off the chart! your already half way there, with it not registering the air intake properly at the moment it may actually be causing the car to perform less to it's potential than it should still having a maf tune in it. Don't quote me on that either i'm no expert when it comes to mafs

Id love to go mafless, it just comes down to the money at the moment :(
And if this thing about the honeycomb being true a particular workshop in mitchell has alot of explaining to do... because im not impressed getting advice from a "pro" (that does it to all their customer cars intake mods) who is far from it from the looks of it... :(

thats why you ditch the maf all together. ;) :jester:

sounds like otr may be on the agenda then :) Do all mafs generally have a honeycomb or similar piece in them?

Thank you to everyone for your advice, ill be heading here before i go trusting a workshops judgement again! these sites are a godsend :p
Just out of curiosity ill go get the car dynoed asap and see what the readings are like and ill post up the sheets if i can

Before buying ANYTHING for your cars, search here first. The SS Inductions CAI is crap and reduces power. Its well proven on a dyno, street and strip. SELL IT NOW. Get a PT one, G&D or Higgins one or wait until the orsom one is released,

Hey i went over to a different workshop today, jakes performance, and he agreed with the mesh and sporadic readings but he said it is only very very slight yet it is always making more power without the mesh, he said the mesh is worth about 2-4kw :), so im happy, like i said before i have not noticed any negativity about removing the mesh from the MAF, i think the car goes so much harder WITHOUT it especially in the top end it stays strong all the way to the limiter rather than dropping off :p Its getting dynoed at 3.30 this avo so ill post up the figures

I have ss induction on me ute and to be honest a noticed a massive diff, when you say they rob power are you refering to a comparison to other brand because not that im a specialist but i would have thought anythin was better than the standard set up, please correct me if im wrong.

I may not be correct, but i have been lead to believe that is in comparison with other brands mostly

Which one do you have, the SS Sealed Pod setup or the big plastic
over the radiator POS?

Have to agree with Voodoo. I had a SS Inductions CAI installed and there was a noticeable decrease in the power. I took it out and a week down the track it was back to normal standard again.

ive read that ss cai work on bog stock boring cars. but as soon as you modify nething, best you put it on ebay and buy a real one.
i personally just bought a chipmaster cai for my ve ss, but decided to put it on my boss's ve ssv.. it took me around 50 min to fit and lets just say im getting another pay rise. Hint hint .:) :) the boss luvs it. hes even been pulled over my strangers in the street asking what the fark had he done to it. he got an untuned ssv standard exhaust with the rear mufflers removed and hot dogs in its place. he states that it pulls so much harder in all gears and just sounds the ducks guts.

If it is the same as the one I made the mistake of buying back in 2003
it connects to the airbox via a big twin horn pipe. If you shine a torch
down the airtract you will see that where the pipe connects to the
big over the radiator section it actually gets quite small and restrictive.
IMO, this is the biggest problem with these intakes.
