Just a Question.. and I did a search but looking for anything to do with suspension just gets you bogged in pages and pages of.. headache material..

So My Question is Basically for VY/VY SS Sedan Owners..

I am looking at lowering my VYSSII and I need to get some feedback on what springs allow for the lowest ride height (front and/or back) without needing to modify guards or having trouble with streering preformance.. I don't mind mixing and matching either.. I want the car to sit level.. obviously meaning I would most likely need lower springs in the back.. I'm guessing? Basically I want the side skirts to be level with the road, instead of being on a slight (maybe 10 degree) angle as it sits from factory..

Ie. are King Spring Super Lows better than Ultra Lows for problems etc?

Or Lovells Springs.. Which ones are the lowest I (personally) would want to go..

Any Feed Back on tested trials (on a VY/VZ SS) and/or pictures would be a great help in making my choice.. I'd prefer to learn off others to minimise my costs along my adventure :)

Any and all feed back in appreciated..

Cheers All..

BLKVYSS,
I have Kings Superlows (V6) in my SS. Part numbers are KHFL 47SL and KHRL 46SLHD. It took me two attempts to get to the right height and she now sits at 325mm HTG which I think is a perfect compromise. I have no rubbing problems or bottoming out problems at all although the ride is quite firm.

The springs are controlled by BOGE struts/shocks with whiteline swaybars and some poly bushes in the front end (Radius f/r). So this would account for some of the increased ride harshness. Hope this helps you out?

Yes it does help.. exactly the sort of feed back I am after..

My question to you is, which is hard to see in a photo.. is how does the side skirt sit compared to the ground? does it keep it's factory stance where the car is on a slight angle or is the car level?

I'm just wondering if going say ultra lows in the back would give me the look that I am after..

however that setup you have looks quite nice and something I would be happy with..

Cheers for the info!

Just measured it for you based off the botton of the doors. There is about a 15mm increase at the back of vehicle so it still retains the factory rake. However, I believe it is subtle as I only really picked it up when I measured it.

Also, if I was to go lower at the rear I would need to add a camber kit. I have done all the suspension work myself and could not be bothered installing a camber kit as it is a PITA. WHen my car sits on an alignment rack it just falls within spec and my rear tyre wear is fine.

I would not go lower at the front without going to coilovers etc. I guess the rear you could reduce by 15mm (KHRL - 46SSL) and add a camber kit. If i had the spare money I would probably do this (combined with coilovers at the pointy end) but ground clearance will become a problem. The lowest point of my car sits at 65mm off the road, well below the 100mm threshold.

EDIT: I have no problems with guard clearance, rubbing and driveways (due to the non-hsv bumper). Speedbumps negotiated with caution are also no problem. So essentially I have a look which I am 95% happy with and no day-to-day drivability issues.

Cheers,
Trav

ive stock fe2 struts and shockies in my vy ss with lovells HFL 76 SL front and HRL 66 XSL rear, they are vs v6 superlows

no rubbing at all anywhere (235/19s on the rear) sits pretty much dead level with the ground.

because i have one of those stupid reece hitch tow ball things, i have an inch thick bar going across my fuel tank which is the lowest part of the car (45mm) that seems to hit on most things, even the road on hard gear changes :(

Nice car mate you are making me jealous. Unfortunately, I bought mine at auction so did not have much choice in colour. I really want to pull mine off the road and respray it a dark colour (jet black)! I am pretty handy with the spraygun so I think I might have to find a rent-a-booth and give it a shot.

Cheers,
Trav
