Hey Guys.. Quite Happy. Just got back from the dyno day in hallam..
Very happy with what I got..
237.6 rwkw @ 7556 rpm..
Car is a 2004 VYII SS 5.7 M6 -
Mods :
Modified Air Box
Thats It.. No exhaust, no tune, not even a K&N filter.. nothing at all
First time i've had it on the dyno since I bought it and the only mod I've made so far is to the air box.. still has the standard filter element.. Still doing my research before anymore mods.. but this is a good starting point for me.. now to reach the skys :)
Bragging rights as far as I'm concerned.. Surprised a few people on the day.. even my self! :yahoo:
7556 rpm that doesnt seem right?

Well done buddy, I bet you are happy too. Top result! ( I think you may have typo'd the RPM though, more likely to be 5750, not 7556 as you said.)
Perhaps the previous owner has had it edited?

Well.. There were a few LS1's doing the same rpm.. I thought it was a bit high..
there was an LS1 previously sitting at 10,000 rpm.. they had it set to 6 cyl..
But they put it on 8 for my run..
Dunno.. I'm just happy with the power :)

Quite Possibly.. *fingers crossed*

Glad your happy with the result.
Don't pay too much attention to the number though, it should only be used as a benchmark to assess the increases from any changes i.e (exhaust, edit, cam, etc)
For example my Clubby makes 235rwkw on G&D's dyno with bolt on's but has run 12.8 @109mph.

Not to burst your bubble, but that power is incredibly out of character for any stock LS1. The RPM is not possible either as if your tune is stock it will be limited to 6200rpm. This dyno is obviously not very accurate at all

Bodgy RPM that. Now way a stocker will rev that high. Untuned limited to 6200RPM. Dyno was not calibrated.

Yup, they were calculated figures on the dyno. Saw some crazy dynosheets for rpm. DTS Dyno. They didnt have the AFR meter hooked up most of the time and never asked diff gears or anything....

mmmmmmmmm
I got 235.4 with full zorst, tb bypass, modded maf and tune.
My car wouldnt rev to 7 now with cam....and I wouldnt do it anyway coz once it got to 5600-5700 that was max power(without cam) and max power with cam was 6200-6300.
Doesnt sound like a really reliable thing from what Ive read here.

Exactly, I have done a hell of a lot of dyno runs and days and to not check cars afr's before full wot runs is unacceptable, unless you like someone to go BANG on your dyno. What youll go "Well thats your fault buddy!"?? Little things happen like too much oil on the maf from the k&n etc, these things need to be checked, its a quick test load up, check the afr when PE kicks in and if you see some high afrs ask the customer if they wanna proceed, dont wait till you hear it pinging audibly.

Its not a real figure mate, just the dyno calculation like the dyno printout we get from DD and Mainline Dynos but they dont put any diff info in etc..... Ive run runs after putting 3.9's in and they have gone "AHHH you have diff gears in, what are they" after runs and they have corrected the rpms...

Getting RPM based on roller speed is not accurate as it would need to be reset every time a car went on the rollers to allow for gearing and tyre sizes and is not 100% accurate as it does not take into account convertor slip and tyre slip.
Better dynos normally use a pickup on either ignition coil primary or secondary circuits, injectors or even the OBD2 port to get an accurate reading

Wow... I was 'hoping' to get 220-230rwkw's with a full exhaust, MCAI and custom tune but I've had a few cans tonight =D
In all seriousness though, and before my typing skills leave me for the evening, I'd take those results with a grain of salt (odd expression isn't it..).
From what I've read on these forums and seen on the dyno - there's rarely an exception to the rule when it comes to what any given engine with a certain set of mods will put out when compared to other cars, give or take 5% at the most.
I'd assume you'd get closer to say 180-190kw's on a dyno dynamics in shootout mode, which appears to be one of the industry standards when it comes to having a comparable dyno sheet. If you're actually interested in usable figures I'd suggest you get a run somewhere else.
Ohh and from what little I know about my LS1 (only had it 4 weeks maybe? sold my GTR for it!) it is rev limited to about 6200-6300rpm or so as I accidentally found out the other day learning how to use the brake when doing a... err nevermind
The above represents the ramblings of a somewhat intoxicated individual and is only close to correct grammar and spelling thanks to Firefox built in checker =D

I was there and don't truly know how the thing was calibrated or set-up, but I did see one particular PWR charged VX GTS run 334rwkw, which is opposed to the 340rwkw that it made on the tuner's dyno - that tuner being a highly respected forum sponsor. In this instance, you'd have to agree that the dyno was fairly close.
Perhaps the dyno/car set-up varied between different cars, who knows?
Overall, it was a good day and another good turn-out from the LS1 crew.
Cheers,

Yup all that matters is if you are happy with the way you car runs then you are Winning.
It was a Dyno day not a Tuning day... as far as I am aware most of the cars that I know made the Power that they were expected...
The track Puts to rest any reservations that ppl have about figures...

Geeze.. I only posted the results as it was the first time I managed to get the car on a dyno.. and was happy with what happened..
I only typed what was on the sheet, so I could not be called a liar.. I do agree the RPM is out.. perhaps 6500rpm instead of 7500? I don't know.. I couldn't operate a dyno if I tried..
I never thought this was going to turn into one of those posts where I get called a loser or get flamed because my "stock" car cant make power..
In my time of modding cars, I've seen cars make power that was incredible.. You never know if you have something which for what ever reason makes more power than you think.. some times it's a fluke..
Once time goes by and I finish all my research and get all my mods done.. I'm when I have a list of things done and I say it makes over 400rwkw people will believe me then.. Obviously a stockish car making good power will make anybody jealous that has spent money to make power..
Look all I know is these cars are detuned and dont run what they would in the U.S. .. So maybe the previous owner had the computer edited? I don't know.. so as far I know it's only got the mod I did...
It's just shame people are quick to criticize.. I'm no fool.. I understand the dyno may be a little bit out.. but for fudge sake, on the day with all the other cars there (Including yours, MADLS1).. I was happy mine made what it did.. made a few people look closer..
This run was only a starting point to compare when I mod the car to see how the power changes.. I by no means think I am going to beat some highly modified cars.. I'm doing things the right way.. learning from peoples mistakes, and choosing the mods which will be most cost efficient.. Didn't think I was going to get the sort of replies I did..
After all I was merely posting the results I got.. not what I think I'm making.. I didn't actually ask what people thought might be wrong or why my car cant do this or that. Next time I ask what people think.. thats the time to say it should or shouldn't do things.. Fair enough people are going to say what they feel.. but think about what people will feel like after you say it..
Makes one feel like contributing to this forum sometimes is a waste of time because people just want to sound important by pointing out why someone is wrong.. Thought this was a place where owners of such cars could get together and share their passion about the cars we all love.. Not a place where some people are made to feel like they don't deserve to speak up?
my 2c anyway..
Cheers to the people with positive feed back :)

The trouble is mate that you will do some bolt on mods then run it on another dyno and lose 30 rwkw and then wonder what happened. I don't think guys were having a go at you personally but you have to realise that this site has had many thousands of members and the LS1's are fairly predictible. When I got my ute I worked out to within 1 rwkw what it should pull with bolt on mods 205 rwkw. This was based on other peoples experience with certain mods and added up. It never saw 237 rwkw after mods and a tune.
So probably best you don't touch yours as it will probably never go any better unless you slip a cam in it if you are to believe the 237 rwkw figure.

Or you could take it somewhere else for a powerun and see what you get?

I have built... ummm carry the 2 ... 4 LS1's now and I have learnt never get wrapped up in the whole dyno thing... just stick to MPH!
When I had my bolt on SV8 I copped it all about having a bolt on auto LS1 making 250rwkw... and it then backed it up at the LS1 nats with 116mph on 19's!
if you make 230rwkw & do an otrcai or something & then pull 238rwkw on the same dyno... then be happy! it's there to tune cars!
If you have 350rwkw & go to the strip & run 115mph... then crack the s^&ts I say!
Dyno days are just for fun... So don't stress!

Its not about a fudge figger e.t.c. .... its there to tune a car
Ok The dyno on the day was a dynamics test system.. most main shops use dyno dynamics & I noticed on the bigger HP cars like mine they strapped it down tight & checked the AFR's e.t.c. ... .And the stock cars got rushed off the rollers
You have to look into factors on the day when you dyno a car... So dont read into it! MPH DOESN'T LIE!!.... so head to the strip :)

Dont worry about it mate, wasnt meant to be a dig at you. Im personnally over dyno days, results are up down left right. As long as it feels good and your happy when you drive it, it doesnt matter. Just hate when you go to a dyno day, pull a big figure and then go to another one and your disappointed. I prefer to take the lower readings now days. When it gets run up at the workshop I dont even bother with a dyno sheet now just get a before and after on a paper napkin

No one's having a go at you buddy, after all you didn't operate the dyno.
Just food for thought guys - if it was set for a six cyl engine that would put max power at about 5700rpm which from memory is about right for a non-cammed GenIII.
Me thinks the dyno operator just didn't swap form 6 to 8cyl setting's for rpm. I'm certainly no dyno guru as I have no idea what difference that would make to the final rwkw reading.

BTW you gotta love the sound of your own car on a power run on the dyno.
