Can anyone tell me what upgrades there are for the stock wet sump, or if there are any front sump setups available?

Thanks for the feedback so far.

I may be wrong, but the Hi-Energy sumps are way over $1000. Ive seen one close-up and they are pretty simple. They are also thin (can't remember if it was tin or rolled alloy) which makes me wonder about strength, seeing as the sump is a major structural part of the LS1. There isn't much re-inforcement in there. Just a single baffle and a cage restrictor.

I know kostecki make one out of billet and it really is nice, but expect to pay $5000. Again, too much for ones budget.

Im not after a workshop referral, rather some technical stuff on what ppl. have done to their sumps and what readily available mods to the existing sump setup is out there.

Wasnt the newer model vz series sumps modified to prevent oil starvation because of the oil moving to the back of the sump under hard excelleration?

I have heard that, though I have not met anyone who has eye-balled the differences side by side. Has someone?

I guess there's 2 things here - oil starvation and windage. My research indicates the ls1 oil pump is pretty good, sometimes over-scavenging the sump (esp. when modified or after-market high volume ones are fitted). The only solution to that is either:

dry sump
more oil capacity
better drainage

The windage issue? im interested to hear ppls. thoughts on that, as even though there is a wind plate, the oil still transfers to the rear. It would be nice to have room to install a rear sump setup. :vpo:

More oil capacity? Obviously a bigger sump. Very exxy... Any ideas?
Dry sump? Very very exxy...

Ive heard you can Accupump them, but the LS1 generates oil pressure quickly so engine starts aren't such a brainer as the twisties and track work (which I won't be doing for a while yet anyway).

I run the VZ sump on my 402 and do a heap of track work. Ive never had any problems with oil pressure.

It is a old thread but was doing a search and found these sumps.
These blokes do an good price baffle sump insert. He says they do an ok job but not suitable for full slicks on the circuit. He also said there are better and they can do up custom ones. I will give it a go. Not that i have issues with oil pressure but want to make it is all good just for the safe side.
