I am on the Insurance merry-go-round looking at quotes for my 2004 GTO. I am gobsmacked by the difference in prices. I have been quoted between $900 to $1800 for the same car... same conditions of nominated drivers, market value etc etc... what a headf*ck... :errr:
One of the companies says that because it does not have a 'standard exhaust' they will not insure it at all.
I have decided on the cheapest, not because it is cheap, but because their conditions are also the best of the bunch so far...
When I was insuring the wife's Mazda... no problems, easy as... but as soon as you throw a V8 at them they seem to go into a tail spin...
Just venting my frustration... thanks for listening (reading)... :eyes:
Maybe there are some Insurance gurus on the forum that can shed some light on why there is such a huge range of quotes?
Stay safe...

Neil, there is a thread on here somewhere about a company that does very good deals and even know abit bout cars. I think it was called Just Insurance. (not justcar)
Many forum members ended up signing up with them (from memory)
Do a quick search and im sure you will find plenty of info on here
cheers

Rino are the cheapest i've heard of so far and yeah i do remember reading somewhere that claim making wasn't a pain in the Ars*
@ my previous job one of the people had to make a claim after reversing into something and he is with AMMI and he had to go get 3 quotes from a list of AMMI choosen repairers which are about 20mins apart.
Choice of repairer and turn around time are probably some of the more important things to worry about as well if they provide you with a vechicle if you require one while yours is getting repaired.

ryno are underwritten by an os company, they are cheap though.
only thing is they are right over the top with their history checks and traffic offences.
normally u get the 5 yrs thing, any convictions etc but they wanted the whole hog and wouldnt insure me. ive never had a suspension or anything like that. ended up just goin to shannons.

Hi there Specre, l called up my insurance company (RACWA) a while ago to get a quote on how much it would cost to add my new stereo, the FU#$%RS cancelled my policy on me then and there :vpo:
I ended up going through a broker who also found Ryno to be the best, they didn't seem to worry about all the extras, just as long as l itemised them on the policy.
I never had any drama's about history and the reason l went through a broker was a mate told me all he had to do was call the broker to make a claim, then they deal with them. Although these are insurance companies we are talking about, everyone is going to have grief with one at some stage !

Mate, I have to ask the obvious question.. WHY??? did they cancel it?? Surely it wasn't because of a new sound system???

Think you'd find the majority ask and do that. They just have to look at the reason, in my case it was the stereo. In others if it was because of lots of accidents or loss of licence etc they won't take you on.

As long as one doesn't go and complain about mainstream insurers rejecting their policies after fitting this sort of system.....

I guess one should do their homework by checking/comparing insurance companys prior to mods of any description!

i'm with ryno, and they were by far the cheapest for my modified XR6T. I was paying $2100 or there abouts with just cars, and the excess was $2500
I was 24 at the time... ryno quoted $1460, with an $1100 excess
Also, my fiancee's brother was paying $3800 for his VU SS (he was 22, now 23).. he got quoted $1200 with ryno.. His car is pretty much standard except suspension, exhaust and 20s.

Not to burst your bubble but once your 12 months is up with Ryno you'll get a letter cancelling your policy, I was given 9 days from today to find a new insurer, I'm 26 with perfect record and only a mildly modified clubby (exhaust, lowered, 19's and tune) and they say because i'm under 30 they can't offer me insurance again. I'm now looking at paying nearly double to go with Shannons :vpo:

When I had my WRX insurance was a nightmare, and thats for a bloke with 20 years driving experience, 70% no claim bonus, etc and still many would say "WRX - no way!", anyhow just renewed last month (1500 a year for WRX valued at 36k - their market appaisal) and since I'm changing to the 6L Calais i get an immediate refund of 760 to maintain my policy with the same company. Not bad eh. So not all of em are scared of V8s. When and if I mod ( or tell them if I do) then it may be a different kettle of fish...
