Porsche would have to be the best handling 2 wheel drive car in the world wet or dry, probably hard to catch if she got really out of shape but it definately wouldn't be as hairy as attempting the ring in my SV8 in the wet!!!!
That Cayman looks wicked...... how can anyone say that isn't a beautiful car.

Have been watching this thing for a bit now, some incredible cars rolling through those gates, yesterday saw GTSR Viper, Porsche GT, TVR's. M3, M5, F430.
What I think is an interesting car in this shot:

Hmm little yellow car in centre of the pic ?
Looks suspiciously like one of Henry Ford's Australian machines if I'm not mistaken.

What's a GT-P doing over there?
Great find Dooma! I know Wheels took an XR6 over Europe years ago...but I can't think why there'd be a GT-P all the way over in Germany!
and a couple of alfas not long after, look race spec or close too
They're owned by a mob that operate at the 'ring called the "Alfa 75 Experience". They're kitted up (roll cage etc... from memory) and you get to fang them around in exchange for some $$$. A bit like race car school I guess. Saw one pranged when I was there last Oct. Hope the fees include insurance!
I also saw an E63 and CLS63...driven by two blokes from Melbourne. They were COMPANY CARS!!! (Yes, they worked for MB :)).
Cheers,
- Febs.
Edit: My tip for anyone thinking of going - pick a weekend where the track isn't open for the entire weekend, but where it's open enough to give you plenty of time. I didn't have a choice in the weekend I went there (was in Czech Republic with work, was able to fly to Germany one weekend, so it was use it or lose it), but I scored one where it was only open for a few hours on Saturday, and all day Sunday. Track was practically deserted. Of my 7 laps, I'd say I didn't pass, or be passed by, a single car for 4 of them. Just like having the entire Nordschleife to yourself. :D
Oh, and I can highly recommend the http://www.hotel-an-der-nordschleife.de/ Run by a really nice German couple, very cheap, and in the best position for track-goers (right next door to the Adenau entrance, which means every time you enter there, you get 1.5 laps for the price of 1. :D)

I read about this somewhere, i think it was on the ford forums, might have a squiz and see what i can find, if no one objects, i link so people can read about it if i find it. Top find though, there are certainly some awesome cars that take a trip round the ring

If you follow the links on the page, there is a lot of info on the site about the track, and the hospital closest to the track quotes how many people they see a week, its not a small number thats for sure. There was one of the chopper ambos there the other week too...

I think these alfas belong to the nurburgring. I've been told that you can hire these cars for laps around the circuit

Sounds cool, might be the way to do it, i know that almost every car hire agency in Europe has a clause on the contract that states that the car is not covered if it is involved in an accident on the ring, but you can purchase cover there i think.
And its not a cheap exercise if you do take an excursion onto the track there, the cost of getting the car out, the ambulance/helicopter ride out, and the cost of repairing the fence (charged per metre) can be astronomical.
I still wanna do it in a porsche though
