im new here, I am looking at buying a VY SS my limit is around 28k, but i live in SA and cant find hardly any VY SS that are manual (has to be manual), i was also thinking about a VX SS II, or maybe even a SV8 as i hav seen plenty of manuals for them, if i cant find a VY SS to my liking ill hav to either look for a SV8 or VX SS, any opinions are welcome as i dont kno much about how difference performance wise and handling, brakes between the two.
cheers

the sv8 isnt a bad way to go, you will have a newer model and you can always upspec is as you go. ive just bought a vy ss but i drove a few of each and didnt notice any real difference, i think most of it is just cosmetic, eg bigger wheels, driving lights, trim, dash fascia, theres certainly no difference in the driveline. i think perhaps there was 5kw difference with the later models, but i may have just dreamed reading that, someone more knowledgable can confirm

i dont think there would be much between VX 11 and VY in handling and performance
motor went from 225KW to 235KW

thanx, well yeh its just i think having manual.. and i love the look of the VX SS but i like the interior and stuff of the VY better is it worth going the sv8 over the VX SS or is it worth it to look hard for a manual SS that i like to pop, im thinking myself unless i find a right VY SS id take the VX instead

Save your cash, get the VX, or the SV8, then spend the extra you saved on go fast parts, there are a few people on the forum that can help with that side of things, and quite a few in adelaide. Well, thats what i would do if i had the cash to get something new

I'd go for a VX SS II - you know you want to :D and you can modify the interior to suit yourself :) . Oh, and you can spend the money you saved (buying a VX over a VY) on "go fast" bits!

Found this on Carsales, might be worth a drive to Mount Gambier for a VY SS with sunroof, just haggle them down a few grand to your price. http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/dealer/HOLDEN/COMMODORE/details.aspx?__Ns=pCar_StatusSort_Int32|1||pCar_Pr ice_Decimal|0&Make=HOLDEN&__Nne=20&State=South%20Australia&R=1251033&state_id=85&__N=4294965857+4294965745+901+834+285+258+287&distance=25&__Dx=mode+matchany&trecs=9&Model=COMMODORE&__sid=10F59FB87BAA&__Ntk=CarAll&silo=1000&keywords=vy%20ss&Cr=5&__D=vy%20ss&seot=0&__Ntt=vy%20ss&__Ntx=mode+matchallpartial

Dunno why works on my PC, just search under Carsales for vy ss. Its a hothouse green, with a few extras.
28k should buy you a pretty bloody nice VY SS shouldn't it? About 12 months ago my best mate sold his VY 1 SS - ~60,000km, 294rwkw, Textralia, leather, stacker, VZ Monaro wheels...looked great, sounded even better and went as hard as you'd expect 294rwkw to go. :)
$22,000.
(Yeah, it was worth more but he wanted it gone. Dealers. :()
Cheers,

Just go an SV8 if you can find a black M6. Spend the extra $$$ on usual mods & a S/charger, T or TT set up... Then you'll have a nice big smile on your face when you blow away stock VE HSV's & the like, knowing you spent thousands less. And then when the motor packs in you'll still have enough for a rebuild (stroker kit). Yeah :yup:

Personally I was looking at Statesmans but didn't like the interior of the WH, like the VY the WK looked much more modern inside, and, as that is where you spend most of your time, if you don't like the interior it'll wear on you and most of the gear isn't interchangable.
Get the newer model, I know I preferred the difference between the two models.

With that budget you should be able to get a very good vy ss or even a highish mileage vz ss here in Sydney.
Apart from the cosmetic difference, the vy ss gets abit more power and torque and abit more v8 note through the dual exhust setup.

If the market for the model you are after in Adelaide is too small, think about looking interstate. Cheap flights and a couple of hundred bucks for fuel and you can drive it home easily from Melb/Can/Syd. All up you are probably looking at <$300 including flights.
The only other factor to consider is rego transfer, to which I can't give you an answer. But handing back the existing plates should give you some refund, as well as cancelling the CTP (if it applies).
The other bonus is that the drive back home would shake out any items that need fixing. :)

Personally I like the VX interior better, VY is a bit flimsy and fiddly, the dials are cramped and require too much attention to get right, not too mention the ugly painted silver centre patch on the dash that reflects way too much!
I know my VZ was like that, and the ex preferred the interior of the CV8, as do I.

I think you are better off going for the VY SS (or a VZ SS if the budget will stretch). I'd suggest staying away from the poverty model SV8, if you are going to keep the car some time you will appreciate the classier and more luxurious bits and pieces of the SS models (an SV8 is really just a V8 executive after all).
