We had a problem with out 05 VZ SS last Thursday.
I do arvo shift, so when i went to go to work at 1:30pm.
got in the car & it would not start. :vpo: Fuel gauge was showing empty.
It was beeping & saying Very Low Fuel. I went into the diagnostics screen
& that even said 0 lts of fuel.
Got the car towed to our closest Holden Dealer. (under warranty)
They said couldnt look at it till Friday. Phoned them up Friday 11am.
They said that they have ordered a fuel pump. Should have it & car
ready by 5pm. Got a call from the at 3pm saying that is not the fuel pump.
That it is a PIM computer. & that they need to order 1 in & it wont be there
until Monday AM. No car over the weekend :vpo:
Rang Holden 12pm on Monday. They have got the PIM in & now the fuel
gauge is working fine. The PIM need to be calibrated & coded to work with
the other 2 computers BCM (i think) & the PCM. & that the PIM & BCM are
connecting but they wont connect up to the PCM. Rang back at 3pm, was told that when the PIM stopped working it may have sent a electrical spike
to the PCM & has shortened it out. & that i need another PCM. Which they need to order 1 in & it wont be here until the morning (tuesday).
Rang Holden at 12pm on Tuesday. They have the new PCM & the tech is
just calibrating the computers together.. All is looking fine..
Got the phone call at 3pm to come & pick the car up. It is all ready.

Man O Man.. Now i know why i had got a tune in the 1st place for..
It runs at idle a lot rougher. & being at auto, the gear changes are so
slow, can feel the loss of power & the extra fuel it uses..

I am thinking that because it is under warranty that a Tune would
not make it under warranty?? Knowing Holden NO!!!.
So if i would have told Holden that the PCM has been edited (tuned) that they could have voided my warranty??
And that i cannot claim for the loss of the tune that i had payed for??

It might have taken Holden 5 days to find & fix the problem.
But it is fixed now & at a considerable cost?? but not to me :)

Cheers
Pete

How much would all that guff set you back if it wasn't under warranty? Could you have got the shop that gave you your tune to look at it?

Whoever did your tune should have it on file and be able to reflash it in for you in a couple of minutes, probably free of charge if they value your business, but certainly for a relatively minimal charge.

yeah take it back to your tuner, they should just load the same program and wont charge you the full price.

I think you are very lucky Holden honoured your warranty claim.

But a great result from your tuner to redo this for free.

Keep in mind next time you modify a new car, you play, you pay!

Yes but the problem would not have had anything to do with a tune anyway so getting it done under warranty is hardly a dishonest act.

cant get better service than that.

Just out of curiosity, did the car run out of petrol and that was the reason all these problems started or was it just the pims time?

You should re-read my post, I never stated this was a dishonest act! I said I thought tash775 was lucky Holden honoured the warranty claim.

Although some dealers are different, majority would knock back warranty claims on motor, transmissions and engine electrics if they knew a tune took place. They would still fix your busted CD player or electric window.

Yes, that's true. I didn't mean to state that quite as strongy. What I meant was that the tune probably didn't cause the problems so he shouldn't feel like he has deceived Holden.

We do work for dealers and most dont have a problems with tunes as long as the tune hasnt caused the warranty iss it wont ever be a issue.

As the problem wasnt tune related Holden have to honour the warranty.

Very good service, well done.
However, if it is possble to reload a customer tune free of charge I assume the cost of this procedure is minimal.
Therefore is it also possible to offer a standard or generic tune that may provide say 80% of the benefits of a full custom tune for a much more reasonable cost, perhaps $200 or $300? assuming a full tune is worth around the $1000 mark.
I am interested to read others thoughts on this.
Cheers.

Don't assume dude, you know what they say !!

What you have said is basically doing a 5000 word essay is easy - and takes nothing to replicate. That's true if it has been saved. You may have missed the work that went into doing the original one from scratch though champ...

Delco proves there are still some good guys out there...

Great customer service !! :)

Cheers so very much Dan.
You are a very much a legend & a great guy to boot. :bow::bow:
Most other companys might talk about it.
But Dan put it all out there & does it. You cant ask for any more than that.

But as of this Saturday we will no longer own the car.
We have traded it on on a new VE. Thou only a six.
When fuel a week gets up to the $200 a week mark..
Well 1 V8 has to go :bawl:

But we will still will be bringing in the E Clubby in for a tune..
Just have to keep saving the pennys 1st...

Cheers. Very much appriciated

Pete & Tash
