large failure rates and no benefits (ie no extra power)

What's the problem?
it coughs and spits and farts under load but when the wheels are spinning in 1st, 2nd, 3rd it revs like a demon, was wondering if a lack of spark was a factor under load (load meaning on full boost, no wheel spinning), half boost fine, wheels spinning full boost through to 3rd, Fine.

Or, just find the search button!...
This is an LS1 powertrain technical question, and guess where the mods links are?
Yep, not in general automotive!
The forum is your friend, if you do just a bit of homework and learn how to make the most of it.

yea whatever
That's it!
You gave a bit of attitude to the mods, so be prepared to cop a bit back from people. If you can't cop it, don't give it.
LS1 Powertrain questions belong in the LS1 Powertrain section, not here.
Remember it's everyones forum, not just yours....

They do provide a greater spark energy thats for sure. A customer of mine has them on his VX and I found them to respond to more advanced timing in a course manner. Outright power I see no difference. Just that they require more work to tune. Basically to get the same result I have to run less timing on the MSD's than I do on the standard packs. Waste of nearly a grand in my opinion.

so your saying that weather the engine is standard or 400 stroker Twin Turbo like mine, the msd will be of no benefit? Im not looking for more power from these, just a better spark in an attempt to rid of the coughing and farting.

Granted they do provide more potential for a better spark. But there is more than enough scope in the standard packs to get your engine to run just as well with the stockers. Speak to your tuner about this. Dwell settings is where its at for generating a more powerfull spark. If your tuner can't fix it with the standard hardware go to someone that can as this is not a difficult issue to resolve. And you shouldn't have to outlay decent money for an unreliable product like the MSD's to fix a simple issue that can be done with a few software tweaks.

What plugs are you running - have you considered the turbo application types like Zex and Brisk make???? They have a different electrode system. Might help. Cheers,
