Thought i would post up a conversion that we have done at work, it was a Ford Capri V6 that was starting to get very tired, a VX wagon rear end damadged V6 auto was purchased for the transplant (Gen3 would have been nice), and a conversion wiring loom was purchased to make the job easy and straight forward.
The throttle body had to be turned around to fit the application, so thats why it looks arse about, the front of the inlet manifold was blocked off, and the back was opened up to suit, we have a good body builder at work that is handy with a Tig welder and he made up the sturdy alloy intake with K&n pod filter, he also made up a alloy fuel primer tank with Bosch fuel pump's.
The Exhaust would not have been my prefered choice of brand/style (untuned hurricane) but was needed for clearence issues.

The Alternator, Air Con Compressor and the Power steering were removed and two B&M transmission coolers fitted, it has a 24volt alternator running of the crank pully shaft, this is how it was set up originally, so we stuck with it.

It fired up Straight away and ran so smoothly compared to the Capri motor, the fuel system is being finalised and some minor things also need tidying up and ready to send it back to where it belong's.

It was a good project for our apprentices to do, with everyone over their shoulders changing their mind on how they wanted it done

It also has a BMW motor bike engine in the back of the vehicle.
Can anyone guess what this thing is used for?

More hints later!

It's also a boat?

Or maybe it's the batmobile?

It can be used on water as well, but no it's not a boat as such.

Without the transmission I would say Hovercraft? Might be a Duck, uses the bike motor for water borne thrust.

Hovercraft or for frozen water, a large articulated ski-mobile/tractor:confused:

Oh gee. Someone has hit the nail exactly on the head. I know what it is but I've had inside information....

Great to finally see the final product mate. Post some pics from further back when you can :)

And the winner is!
Is it a snow based emergency vehicle?

Hmm, that is spot on, how did you figure that one?, the BMW Bike motor for the pump in the rear?

Made in Sweden by the Hagglunds company (they make Tanks etc), It belongs to the NSW Fire Brigades and it lives at Perisher Valley, it is used for Fire/Rescue situation's in the Snow Season or in the dry.

I wonder if they will offer NSWFB staff rides in this in the snow to raise funds?, hey i might be onto something:driving:, they use them in other countries for tours across snow mountains.
I have pics of the complete vehicle which i will post, but did not bother taking pics when it had the ford motor in it :spew:, there are two of these and the other will be done next season depending how it performs, we are checking to see if the transmission is up to the job, it has a total weight of 7 Tonnes and has a high/low range transfer case, LOL, it's NOT built for speed or comfort.

This is what the exterior looks like, note the custom fuel system on the ground, LOL.

Firebug you won't get one of these in sunny N'Castle, notice that this is the SEV to the other ATM, but the other may become the SEV, bet you like getting SEV's hey!

This one below still has the Ford motor, we should line them up down the 1/4mile, although i'm sure the Firies will line them up, up the mountain.

Deductive reasoning. The red paint helped. The web address added a little. And I would think nothing else in the fleet would have that motor. Oh and a little past interest in fire vehicles. Lots of years in RFS.

7 tonnes!!!
root... no wonder you had to put in two trans coolers... but i guess with a nice low range transfer and the gearing setup for torque, not speed, it should be fine...
revving its tits off in top gear doing about 50kph i rekon...

As long as it can get there over all types of terrain!
The V6 will handle it and i don't know why they didn't have a diesel engine, although the gears are low, it will reach 60Km/h on the road, the tracks may help shift a load differently than on wheels, but at slower speeds.

This also makes changing light globes easier and a great view of Sydney.
Makes for a fun ride in windy weather.

Yeah, you were pretty close, i suppose snow is frozen water and it is a ski mobile/tractor, so partial credit to you.

MMM, A slow moving underpowered overweight loud vibrating pile of metal... Nothing different to the V8 International SEV's we usually get...

Ahh, Bronto's provide the best seat in the house don't they... The last time I was in 260 station's Bronto, old mate with the joystick was demonstrating "Look how far it sways when I rock it..." I almost threw his @rse over the side!:kapow:

The older Bronto at N'Castle feel harsh and old but get jobs done, the newer models are smooth (COS 01 and Crows Nest 36), if you don't like to rock, don't go up in a set of Magirus Ladder's (ie at Wollahra 11), feels like your balancing between two sticks 35meters in the air and extend nice and quick and takes a while for the movements to stop once you let go of the controls.
Bronto make over 100M unit's, don't think i would like to go up in one.
The BBC has purchased two as they find them cheaper broadcasting at the golf courses, racing etc rather than using choppers, Tallest in Australia is owned by NASA, it is about 70M and is only used to clean/service a aerial/dish of some sort i am told.

Bronto's are known as aerial appliances or ladder platforms. They have a platform (or bucket) at the end of the boom also fitted with a water monitor/cannon. (specs I'm not sure of... ssute57l?) Pretty impressive bit of kit...

Thats flowing about 2-2500 L/min, no pumps or tanks onboard aerial appliances (apart from Hydraulic oil), they are supplied by other pump trucks with 4 X 70mm lines, running about 1000Kpa, they sure use alot of water, but are needed to suppress big fire's and are handy in high reach situations.

Surely around Oz you would think there are more Firies out there, some must drive V8 Commodores that have plenty of time on their hands to be flicking through forums like this or are they at some Subaru Liberty/Outback or 4X4 forum LOL.

Are there any of you guys working for any Emergency Service's etc including Volunteer's ?
