I know they are referring to built in computers in cars, but I already have the internet in my car with my laptop and NextG phone.....just costs an arm and a leg.

3G services will get cheaper....

Look how dear internet access was... dial up at 7:50 a minute.... and now......

MY Three 3G connection is great for around the city ans is $69 for 2Gb.

Telstra is charging a premium because they are telstra and they have more coverage.

I have used the net all the way across brisbane and not had a drop out...

Cheers

Chad

that's true, and hopefully the 3G coverage will increase to be better than CDMA sooner rather than later.

I note that my NextG phone hits a blackspot at the McDonalds at Sutton Forest in NSW (halfway between Syd and Canberra). My previous CDMA phone worked fine.

still amazed there is blackspot there given how busy it is.

Internet based services are already in cars. It's just not packaged as general purpose Internet.

For example, iDrive connectedDrive let's you find and navigate to accommodation, food etc., use email, check news and weather etc., but via services package by BMW for in-car use, not using a general purpose browser/email client etc.

Maybe in the future the in-car systems will offer gateway services so your laptop/PDA/phone can connect to the internet VIA the car (bluetooth gateway for example).

Wonder how long it will be before this gets banned as well like hand held mobile's?
All it will take would be for some w@nker to be Googling how to turn his fog lights on, and then takes out a mum and baby in pram on a crosswalk.
