Heading to bathurst later this year so was wondering how strict the speed limits are in nsw and vic. I thought vic was 3 over, is that right? what about nsw?
Cheers

3 and over is the tolerance for speed cameras. Usually up to 5 on the mobile patrols etc. It just depends on the copper and the day. My advice is just sit on the limit and you will be right.
PS. I know it is a pain.:bawl:

Glad I asked, I thought nsw may have been a bit more lenient. Will be a change from sitting at 5 over here in sa :(

10% is usual for highway patrol.
We have 3 signs before speed cameras so if you get done, well, in my opinion you deserve it.

its pretty lenient.. the speed cameras are all out in the open, with 3 signposts before each one, and I havnt seen a radar gun in about a year? Mobile units, well they are pretty obvious but again, they arent around often. Bathurst however, you know they will be out in force to get all the hoons etc.. not worth the risk.

Hey, i lived in bathurst for 20 years before moving to perth last year. Well i can let you know about speeding in bathurst considering my rush of blood back in 2004, got caught doing 180km going down conrod straight which is a 60km. 6 months suspension and $1200 fine not worth it trust me. As for day to day you do see a highway patrol car most days of the week. Some times between Bathurst and Lithgow and Bathurst and Orange you can past 3 highway patrol cars spaced 5km apart when there on a speed bust. In october they are everywhere so trust me dont speed.

In VIC stick to the posted limit to be safe because the speed cash register cameras are everywhere.

In NSW on the highway you have to be doing 16 kph over normally before the highway patrol will book you. i.e. 116+ in a 100 zone, or 126+ in a 110 zone. I always have the cruise on 118-120 in a 110 zone and have never been booked and my speedo is accurate (as measued by my GPS).

It amuses me how people try to figure out just how much extra they can go over the limit without getting caught.
Who's to say just how accurate your speedo really is?
All to save just a few minutes at the most if they are lucky...

Mrs was pulled over in Vic last week for doing 115 in a 100 zone, she was let off with a warning after explaining that she was reading the speedo in MPH and not KPH. (imported Astra vxr)

if that were the case she would have been traveling at 71-72miles per hour if it was around 115km per hour.. ?
very silly cop; or very attractive wife LOL
got one of the good ones i guess as ive been bailed up for 105kmhr in a 100zone and it took a good 5 min discussion with the cop to explain all it takes is a few kmhr out on the speedo, a hill, a tail wind or in my case trying to get around a truck that started moving around within my lane and i was more than half way up the side of the truck.
he told me he was goin to keep an eye out for me in the future and i gave him my word i would never break the speed limit infront of him in this car ever again - the car was pre sold and was going the very next day :)

Im afraid in victoria 3 kmh over is life without paroll, in a prison manned by gaurds selected from a pool of child molesters and murderers sentenced to 5 years or less.

I think it depends on the cop - as 16 over is quite a bit

Sure, but the lowest offence is 0-15 kph, and on the highway the cops won't book you normally for a 1-15 over otherwise they would be booking *everybody*. I've probably been through 50+ highway patrol radars doing this over 20 years and never been booked for doing it. One time I did get booked for doing 17 kph over (I was overtaking and off cruise) and the cop at the time told me as such - he said the hwy guys won't book until you do 16 kph over.

I read last week that NSW is considering Vic style unmarked and hidden speed camera's.
The good times may be about to end for this type of thinking...

usually very safe 110 in a 100 and 120 in a 110 zone. any more and it can be a risk. although I have travelled 120 in a 100 and just had the HWP cop flash his headlights at me. (thanks Mick)

fortunately the minister said he beleives high visibility policing is more important, so no to the undercover cameras.
Just wish scruby would crawl back under his rock and stop trying to make up for running a pedestrian over years ago.

You mustn't have heard what our government says to justify them!
They hide them for purely "safety" reasons, so people don't speed up between known camera's, in combination with high visibility traffic cars (TMU) and "smart" cars.
Considering you have double demerit point days up there, I'd be very wary. We were told 10% speedo margin would be policy when cameras came out, now we have 3km/h at 100km/h, only 3%!....:hide:
