Same here but my last two utes both had stuffed ratchets in the wind-up mechanism for the spare tyre...so tighten it carefully.

I had my ratchet replaced under warrenty.

I've got the same noise and was just ignoring it, i'll have a look tomorrow.

Wow. I think this was the first thread I ever posted.

I found that the squeeking was exactly what everyone said it was. I tightened up the spare and the sound was gone.

I also had a rattle coming from the rear that was a stuffed shock absorber.

As for your car, the metal on metal sound may well be the sound of the spare tyre's sidewall rubbing underneath the tray. Don't see why it would get louder after a long drive though.

Ill give the spear wheel a go and see wat happens i hope it is as simple as that .. i do know the whinch for the spear wheel is a dit on thestuffed side some thimes it dose up no matter wat way you tern it so it may vevy well be it ...

I got to say i had a noise in the cab for about 15 months a bam rattle niose comming from the passnger seat or door tryed every thing just about riped the hole thing apart with no luck ... for the best part i fixed it by terning up the tunes ... one day i ternd to the gf and got her to try and find it ... she gets it strat away .. center console ..................... the DAM COINS in the little holder rattiling around !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyways ill keep ya posted ...

10 years of shift work and double shifts you just get used to it but thats life running your own wholesale and trucking bis ... wouldn't be so bad if i could get good workers but with the mines and big bis offering so much cash to attract workers how dose the small guy compete, he just doesn't so you end up working your self into the ground ...
