i am a new owner to the ls1 market
having owned a few big banger aussie v8's (vl calais, vn ss and a walkinshaw)
i am suprised at the pricing difference being quoted to buy after market performance part. eg:
vn ss exhaust twin 3" mandrel bend stainless with genie extractors $1500
ls1 exhaust twin 2.5" mandrel bend stainless with difillipo extractors $3500 and thats abount an average price
vs ss otrcai $180
ls1 otrcai $350+
i am wrong but im sure materials have not gone up in price that much that we are nearly havig to pay double the price of stuff over when we used to modify our home grown aussie v8.

The mere mention of difillipo is half your problem.
As long as people keep believing they are so good, people will keep paying that!
There are a vast number of more economical alternatives mentioned all over this site for various mods, but with so many people prepared to spend unnecessary amounts of cash on expensive mods, some will stay up at top dollar levels, just because they can!
Do your homework, and don't be sucked in toward certain expensive "name brands".

I guess it's because there may be alot more demand so why not put up the prices.....

Its up to the customer needs & wants, if the customer wants a certain note from exhaust system (most have diff notes)& knows it makes good power, let the customer buy it! This forum, exhaust , auto & performance shops can only guide the customer to there needs as per the customer's budget. there is no need single out one exhaust manufacture

Its the same story with everything, if people didnt want houses near the beach so much they would be cheaper too.
I paid 1300 for my stainless twin 2.5 di filippos, pretty good price really considering that the xforce and others in stainless are within 100 bux of that.

prices might be higher but so are the results. How many 280+rwkw cam only 308/304's have you seen? Even the 355 strokers are lucky to see 200+

Dont get me wrong there, di filippo full system in stainless will cost u ur left one.
I guess its because a handful of people modded the 5.0s compared to now almost every ls1 owner has a different exhaust and tune.
Nomatter what it is, when its in demand the prices go up with it.

Economies of scale mean a lower cost to the manufacturer, but a high level of demand mean a greater profit opportunity as well! If people continue to pay it, there's no incentive to lower the price. The best incentive is competition.
Almost everything you can think of have more affordable alternatives, and in many cases, are actually more suitable for cars that aren't highly modified.

Stainless catback from Sureflo $1500 (Well it was in 2005) + Stainless 4-1 Headers from CSV $900 (Well they were in 2006) = $2400......
Maybe you asked for a quote from the wrong people?

Wonder what the bottom line performance difference is from the brand name setups to the mid range more "realistically prices one are"?
Wouldn't imagine much.. time to search the forums

Its a suppliers market at the moment. Prices will only keep going up as long as the economy keeps booming and credit becomes even more accessible.

mate check out the classifeds. the best gear slighly used but at a great prices. ive got a diffilipo dual 2.5" stainless system on my ute that i payed $300 for and it was only about a year old. would i have brought it new, no way but at that price it was a steal and it sounds good. many of bargins to be had in the classifieds over the last few years ive probably spent close to $4000 if not more.

I kind of agree with you. $900 for a mild steel cat back is ludicrous. Probably $50 worth of steel there. $900 odd for an edit is also too bloody much as far as I'm concerned. If I did all the mods I wanted to do (which wouldn't be much) I'd be kissing around 4k goodbye. And if I did that, I'd be getting a divorce quicker than any of you blokes could run the 1/4 mile!
Lowered my SS about a week after I got it and spent the night on my mum's couch for the privilege :(
No I'm too scared to even think about mods!
