Manuals came with the 3.7's but auto's retained the 3.08. Someone did mention that the later VZ manual came with 3.45's but unsure of that.

Yes, you're right. The VZ when fitted with the 6.0 went back to 3.46 all autos were 3.07

Yep, agreed! :) Assuming you have an A4 VENOMOUSS a 3.73 should make a nice difference! :burnout:

If it is a ute then it is most likely 3.46's in a manual.... thats what was in my VYSS ute

See Vulture's post or http://www.users.on.net/~nweber/commodore/vz/vz-specs.html
Manual - 3.73 in the 5.7, 3.46 in the 6.0.

Wonky is definitely correct.
To add a little more for everyones benefit...
VZ LS1 MM6 box- 3.73 (wide ratio box)
VZ L76 MM6 box- 3.46 (wide ratio box, but behind motor with better low down torque, hence taller diff)
VZ LS2 HSV M12 box- 3.46 (close ratio box)
VZ Monaro LS1 M12 box- 3.46
Anyone know if its that big of a difference to go from 3.73's to 3.9's?
Ive done all my extractors, catback, otrcai, maffless tune.
People now say diff gears are the next thing i should be looking at...
However if theres no big difference, theres no point?

How much different are the M12 ratios to the T56?

you guys just saved me a bit of $$$
Thanks

I dont think it would be worth the money. I went from 3.46 to 3.9 and i noticed a differance but not as much as what i was hoping. I would stay with the 3.73's as you can also get problems with diff whine from the 3.9's.

It's all maths - going from 3.73 to 3.9 is less than a 5% difference ((3.9 - 3.73)/3.73 = 4.55%).
In comparison going from 3.07 to 3.46 as I did in my VZ is almost 13% ((3.46 - 3.07)/3.07 = 12.70%). That was noticeable to me but not all that much so I think only just over 1/3 of that would not be noticeable at all to all but the most sensitive bum (SOTP) so not worth doing unless you can do it dirt cheap. Just my 2c worth........ :D
Ah good to know.
More money saved for a cam i guess :D

Just read all the posts guys, and am a little stunned with some of the responses.
I have a 2005 (March) VZSS 5.7 Gen III Ute MM6.
My Diff gears are clearly labelled 3.46 LSD on the Diff.
I would be over the moon to have 3.7's in there. Can anyone please direct me to any official print where it clearly states that all 5.7 GenIII come with 3.7's, as I'll contact Holden and ask why mine has 3.4's! I never use 6th gear, and am looking to put in 3.9's soon.
Cheers guys, hope someone knows this.

This information is readily available from your local parts dealer.
I will double check ute applications next week, but sedans/Monaro/HSV's DEFINITELY had the diffs listed. Providing your VIN to a dealer can get you a printout of the production options fitted.

Ok, the confirmation is that all NON COMMERCIAL manual variants had the listings I gave, plus HSV Maloo ute.
Non Maloo utes, had 3.46 for all V8 manuals. Live axle models weren't originally included, as they are full commercial vehicles, but for everyons info, they never had 3.73 either!
Hope that has sorted it out for the relevant people....
so vz ss has 3.7 or not? m6?

All my listings were for manual gearboxes.
If yours is an LS1 powered manual "SEDAN", it's a 3.73. LS1 SS "UTES" were still the 3.46 as in the past. L76 in either had a 3.46.
