I have managed to spend a fair bit of time at the workshop lately.

Sam has been helping with the development of some serious stoppers!

Mounting brackets for these babies will be completed over the next few weeks.

Then comes the best part - testing the suckers :woohoo:

Check these out for a set of performance calipers -

Damn nice bits of gear!
At the risk of sounding stupid, aren't 17s, maybe 18s, the biggest performance tyre you'd race on therefore making these more of a "show" brake package?

Heaps of 18s available ... RE55 being one of the best. 19s can be found, but it's not easy and they aren't cheap, I have a set of Dunlop SP Racing Semi Slicks in 19 inch.

That looks insane Ken, they will sure fill out a set of 19s or 20s, if they work half as good as they look you'll be laughing.

:bravo:

Thought you would have put up a pic of the small rotor as well! The small rotor is I think 383. The rotors look quite good and I cant wait to give them a thrashing. Would be good Ken to put something like your hand beside them to give people an idea of the size. Who says size doesnt matter? This set are going onto Sams VE.

I have tested a set of the 6 piston fronts and 4 piston rear and was pleasently surprised how well they worked and recovered from multiple hard stops, considering they had the road pads in them.

After speaking with an owner of a JAX Tyres, there are quite a lot of performance tyres for 19", 20" even 22".

A lot of the serious european sports cars come standard with 19" rims so the tyres have been around for ages.

These are a very serious brake set up, not a "show" set as you thought.

I assume they must be very heavy, considering the size of the brakes. Is this outweighed by the performance of the brakes?

My bad,
Thanks for the clarification guys.
Again, great looking bits of gear, can't wait to see the rotos, and the setup on the car

Problem with assumptions is that they are not usually correct.

They are very well built and weigh about the same as other performance calipers. These just happen to have 8 pistons and are bloody big suckers.

Even if they did weigh in at a kilo or 2 heavier do you really thinks it would make that much of a difference to the total weight of the vehicle to have a negative impact on its performance ?

The disc's are in the workshop now, I will post a pic of them when I get a chance.

Sounds good. I only bring it up because I recently put on a new set of brakes and couldn't get over how heavy they were.

Very neat looking bit of gear aswell.

Thought the caliper said forged 8 piston.
Do they come with a tool to put your eyes back in your head after slamming on the skids?

Good question. Unsprung weight (which brakes are) are a concern to any vehicle. It is a lot more important on full on race cars moreso than an everyday car that goes to the track for qa bit of fun. For example an F1 team or even the DTM cars look to save every single GRAM of unsprung weight, hence why they go to ceramic brakes etc. Cost for example, when buying 996 Twin Turbo porsche (Australian delivered) we looked to option up to the ceramic brake package as a bit of wank but more performance, it was $52,000 that we were quoted and were not available at that time. A friend told me the other day they are now down to about $25k.

In saying that yes the eight piston caliper is heavier than the 6 or the 4 but in comparison to other competitor 8 piston options, these have come in a touch lighter than those that they have been compared to. Even so to answer the question I think you will find that the stopping ability, pad and rotor recovery, will far outweigh any weight issues.

i think i remember reading somewhere that every kilo of unsprung weight is equal to 6kgs of sprung weight...i think. and by the way, very nice. if you need anyone with a vy clubsport to test them, be sure to ring me. lol
