Hi All,

That time of year again, insurance renewal time. Is it just me or have the policies got more expensive lately.

I wanted to find out from you guys who you are insured with for your SS. The cheapest I can find at this stage is my current insurer, CGU for $950 per year. All the othe majors vary from $1100 to $1500, which seems expensive considering I am over 30 and a Rating 1 driver.

How much do you guys pay? Who is your insurer?

Anyrecommendations/advice would be appreciated

Thanks all

Clarky

i would suggest ryno insurance.
many have had succes with them. i would also be with them but have to pay a premium due to my poor traffic offence history.
being over 25 and rating one means you should be able to get a good deal, but how far under 950 you will go, thats the big question!

wow that sound cheap
I'm paying $1600 (that's because am under 25 though).
I would presume if under 25 Rating 1 paying $1600
Then $950 isn't too bad for over 30 Rating 1. At the end of the day they are insuring a SS. They have to keep cheaper insurance for the executives or V6's

Sorry I forgot to mention.
I think if you check with Alliance, you might get some good deals for the premium but the downside is you will have a big excess in case of accident.
The higher you nominate your excess, the cheaper your premium will be.
You have to decide whether you are confident you won't be having any accident in a year (otherwise the high excess+ low premium will cost more than more expensive premium + normal excess)

Ypad,

I have tried Allianz they want $1300 I believe it was, when I looked around last year, CGU were the cheapest and still seem to be. So its not too bad.

I did an online quote through Ryno and the email come back saying that it was declined, no idea why, said I did not meet their underwriting needs or something to that effect.

I would be interested to hear from other Rating 1 over 30's on here and find out what you guys are paying.

I use Shannons....about $880 from memory for the SS

but I think that is cheaper than usual as I have the bikes
and my missus' car with them (a total of 2 bikes, 2 cars for $2500 pa)

Nefarious,

Thats crazy although have been there myself, when I was 22 I had a VR 5.0 Statesman $2500 a year, I tell you they were not good times.

Makes my $950 seem pretty good, thats the problem under 25 they just kill you for insurance, its alot of money per year to pay.

My VYII SS is $680 a year through CGU. No other insurance with them just the car.

With Ryno you must be over 20 and the car must be garaged in an enclosed garage (ie 4 walls not a carport).

One of mine was declined so I rang them and it was because it wasn't parked in a garage overnight.

Our Gen 3 Wagon VX was only $523 with them, but it is parked in the garage at night.

Cheers

$732 on my VX SS with RACV agreed value - $26990, they took the agreed value up that high as it has under 50,000km on the clock.
Multi policy discounts and been with them for many years so think there was a discount for years of being with them as well.
Would have been cheaper had I gone for a lesser agreed value, but that is what they offered so I thought might as well keep the agreed value as high as possible in case of a theft or write off.

Lease 1 thats an awesome price for a VY SS. As I said, CGU have been the cheapest, still need to call Shannons and will call Ryno again today to follow up.

Thunder, I dont know why Ryno declined me, I am over 30, rating 1 car is garaged overnight, not sure why it was declined, may call them up today and find out what the story is.

The cheapest I can find at this stage is my current insurer, CGU for $950 per year.

I had a quote from a broker using CGU for around $410 for market value and $450 a year with an agreed value of around 30k for my VU SS Fifty. However I didn't end up going with CGU as they have a limit of $5g on accessories etc to the vehicle as such after I told them about the list of goodies they said they couldnt insure it all and I decided to remain where I was.

This quote was for a garaging address about 60kms from Adelaide, rating one, with the vehicle listed as company owned but me as the sole driver (22 at the time - Jan this year).

Wow, you guys are doing well!

I've never had an at fault accident, been an insured driver for nearly 20 years, have only had a couple of fines during the last 5yrs and have been paying $1700 with my current insurer.

I contacted Ryno late last year and they e-quoted $861, but I couldn't change over due to a panel shop dispute and just last week I got another e-quote from Ryno (as dispute is sorted) and was quoted $1600! It seems I can't win :(

Apparently my insurance is this price because of the area I live in, regardless of the fact that she's never parked on the street in this area and can't be seen from the road because she's behind a massive brick wall!

SS :)

I'm 22 got a VX SS insured with RACV $790 a yr, with all the mods listed, pretty happy with that. just ring get a few quotes then call the other insurers back and say the other insurer could to it for a better price. They usually come to the pary i got mine down from 1300 to 790 just going back and forth between elders and racv

I was 22 at the time I organised the insurance with Just Cars. $1090 ish for the premium with roughly $1900 for the excess due to the car, male and under 25.

Its funny you got that quote from RACV for that price, they want to charge me $1100, god knows how some of these companies come up with these figures, who knows. I am going to chase up Ryno and Shannons today.

Its funny that the prices vary so much, some 22 yo getting better insurance quotes than me and I am 31, rating 1, no accidents or claims weird.

Geez you guys are getting stitched on insurance. I am 31 now and started off paying $780 for first year and dropping down to $480 at the moment on my VX SS which I bought new 5 years ago. When I was 23 I bought a new WRX and was paying $1400 for the first year, then $1150 for the second, had a car accident which was my fault and it went up to $1250 at which point I then sold it and bought my SS. At age 21 I bought a VS SS and had full comprehensive for $800 and subsequently went down over the next couple of years to $500. It pays to use a broker as I was quoted $1000 at one point from CGU, then contacted a broker who went through CGU and got it for me for $780.

vz sv8
otrcai(covered for $700)
extractors
exhaust
mafless tune
lowered
bigger brakes
alpine sound(covered for $3000)
chrome wheels(covered $1600)
(all above approved and covered)
$30000

$650 per year including rental car for 2 weeks for theft or accident

I'm 41 and no accidents.

I have heard of people with turbo mods being covered by same insurer, it's all in the risk to them whether they allow the mods and your age/accident history and type of car for cost.

Guys,
please remember that everyone is different

no point comparing each others premiums - its like apples and oranges
everyone is different, each postcode is different, each stae, your not the same age - different cars diffeent benefits
a shitload of factors determine a premium. no point posting what you pay and no point complaining that you are getting ripped - many factors determine it. Simple.

Perfectly said! (Beat me to it.) The biggest factor along with your rating (and on these cars, potentially age) is your postcode, so absolutely no point comparing premiums with anybody else unless they are in the same postcode.

FWIW my SSV is insured for $60K with all mods noted (extractors, exhaust, CAI, rims, tune, lowered). Premium a bit over $800, outer south east Melbourne suburbs but I am an old fart - more than twice the over 25 limit some companies have on SS's. :D

Im 20 rating 2 and have a Stocko VX 2 SS leather wheels and just cars insure me full comp. for $1350.

Ryno would not insure me because of my age.

Alot of guys on here sound like they are paying a fair bit.

I'm Rating 1, but best I could get (due to postcode) was Just Car for just over $1800 p/year.

I was surprised by it at the time, but try doing some online quotes with alternate postcodes - there's massive differences about!

In our case, it just comes down to where we live ( neighbour)...see post #15. Shop around a bit, you may get lucky.

CGU and Shannons have been the best for me so far, CGU about $950, and Shannons about $880.

I might change to Shannons me thinks. My current insurance is $1205pa, and NRMA told me I can't have anymore then 240kw  (Still trying to work that out if they meant rear wheel or flywheel.)

MY car is insured with CGU at the moment it's $1300 as they were the cheapest at the time I've never had insurance before so i was hapy the price..
Funny thing CGU is owned by the NRMA and they wanted $1600...
Tried insuring it with Ryno but they wont insure me as I backed into a car last year and you have to be accident free for 5 years for Ryno to cover you now..
Rang Shannons today and they said $1100, so when my policey runs out at the end of the month I'll be changing to them... Plus they said the would cover any mods I do to the car..

SS premium with GIO $800 month.Cheapest out of 1/2 a doz companies with rating one and being over 25.
It really depends on where you live, your age and whether or not there is finance on the vehicle.Finance generally can add up to $300 a yr on your premium.
There's no bonuses for having an older V8 though. My VN costs just a few $ a yr less than the SS to insure.Ludicrous as its worth nothing from an insurance company point of view.
They dont care what youve spent on the thing!
