Hi guys, i got an '01 VX SS A4 (red) with coby extractors, k&n panel, coupla coby hotdogs and 2 x 2.5".

Already kicks butt all over my brother in laws totally stock VXSS, and then the other day I got my ECU edited via mail order.

The edit made a huge difference, and Wayne at Protune Auckland said they leave some margin for error in bits of the tune, and dont tune it as hard out as they do when they have the vehicle there in person.

Anyways, I figure im making well over 300kw (flywheel), and would be really keen for a Dyno test and tune, and also to try a couple of 1/4 miles.

What are my options, living in Hawkes Bay? Wheres the nearest place to go do 1/4 mile runs? Taupo?

Can anyone recommend a place with a Dyno in HB?

What should I pay for a dyno test / tune ?

The changes to the shift patterns / redline with the edit were worth it, let alone the increase in power!

Cheers....

I wouldnt say your making well over 300kw with a mail order and unknown extractor size and type, you would really need to run it and see what mph it runs to get a good idea how much power it makes.

Having recently driven a dynoed 280kw VX, and a couple of VZ Clubbys, I have a fair idea that its more powerful than all three...

But like I said... I want to Dyno test it, rather than not know for sure (which is the situation both you and I are in at the moment).

I am considering buy a Beltronics FX1 - anyone got an opinion on these units? Good? Bad? Waste of money?

you shouldnt need to pay more than $120 in NZ for a dyno run. There are a couple of good places where you are so just look through yellow pages. The names are posted in a thread somewhere on this forum, do a search mate. As for a track? go to taupo bro:) oh and about the power thing you mentioned about other cars you have driven, its not about the KW its about the TOURQUE, you my feel like you have more power but in fact it may be more torque and each cars power is distributed in different areas through the rev range too:)

Radar detectors are ilegal in most parts of Oz, i think theyre ok in WA, so you might be better off looking at some kiwi or US sites to get some good feedback on them.

Get it out to the strip to get a decent idea of the power its making, a low 13...maybe a high 12 should be there for the taking, a trip to Meremere might be in order :)

Sweet thanks. I thought Taupo might be the closest. Im not from around here, so wasnt sure....

I know what Torque is, but never considered that there could be a disproportional difference between vehicles compared to the kw difference... Some bedtime reading to do there I guess.

I was referring to the Beltronics FX1 Accelerometer - not a radar unit. I hardly ever driver over 100 - 110kmh so radar detector not of use to me.

Id like to think I have a 13 second car when I get out there. high 12's would be a bonus.

But having said that, even if I have a 13 second car, my car probably has a high 15's driver!!
